Not to over develop everywhere. Just make Lao people happy and content is good enough.

- improve healthcare and emergency services
- improve roads + public transportation services in big cities
- improve judicial security, fight corruption and keep crime level low (not easy when a country develop).
- develop organic agriculture
- prepare/be ready to deploy widely solar panels and electric cars (when the technologies will me more mature.... now it's a little bit early, but we have to prepare anyway)

quite different from what you proposed, right?

developping a country is not consume more and more useless products and pollute more and more until there is nothing left. Developping a country is just provide safe life to people and their children. For that, you have to invest on long term and sustainable development. Improve comfort comes after.

Anyway, a few big shopping malls could be usefull to improve distribution of some products.... but not luxury shoping mall concerning only a few rich lao people. A big shopping mall with lot of choise and good prices for all lao people. I would enjoy a lot to see in Laos an equivalent of our french "LeroyMerlin" or "Castorama" (big supermarket dedicated to tools, material, cements... everything you need to build/improve/decorate your house), or big big furniture shops/malls

Train can be usefull too.... but i' affraid there are not enough people in laos to make a project based of high speed train (japan or french technology) economicaly realistic. It would be great just to have normal train all over the country.

# 1 thing Laos need to improve is to PROVIDE JOBS FOR THE PEOPLE. So, we need more factories there. Definately more KFCs, Starbucks, etc. The more the better because people will have jobs. Show the world that at least 75% of the people have jobs.

Our population is small with roughly 6-7 millions, unlike our neighbors with 60- 100 millions. It should be easy for us. Still millions of people in Laos are still unemployed. Majority are still farming.

Well, there are few things came to mind.. Here are some of the things Laos do need in order to move forward.

1. Sanitary Sewage Treatment Plants
2. Express Highways (cars only, no bikes allow)
3. Clean water systems

I live in France... our income is much much higher than average income in Laos. But as everything in France is more expensive than in Laos, and as our social and economic organisation is in a way costfull, we don't leave soooo much better than in Laos.... better of course, but not so much regarding the income difference. We have 10 time more money, but we just live a little bit better!

So higher income don't mean a lot. Measuring quality of life need to consider more parameters

Well, you are wise guy here to ask the question and gave the answers that is none sense. Laos doesn't have to prove to the world and any body . All Laotian need better condition of living, jobs, good education , good health care and good justice system. Tall and big hotels and modern cities which are owned by the foreigners and the cities became polluted and the majority of Lao people are jobless and not well educated and most of the business and well educated people are foreigners so Laotian will still be poor and be a second class citizen so it is not what the Lao people want.

First of all bros......... Lao do not need KFC, No Starbuck, No BK, No bigmac, none of that stuffs...Who cares about foreign foods. Foreign enterprises, We have Dao coffe, Beerlao,Lao country serve lao foods I see nothing wrong w/that. To be civilized, we need the better road to start with. The school & education system. The Hospital has to upgrade & serve better to our citizens. PPle of Lao need a job to sustain the income. What do you mean by developed?

Economically?
Socially?
Architecturally?
Industrially?
All of the above?

Everyone is mentioning all the same things, be like other countries and have this and that.
Have what others have in the rest of the world. Well in these so called developed countries, crime still happens, women still get raped, murders still hapen, corruption still occurs, people are still poor and hungry (homeless/unemployed), people are still uneducated (rising education costs - only rich go to school), there are still "ghetto's" and slums. Now there are even more things to worry about, cyber crime, identity theft, drug cartels, health care, financial fraud. I can go on forever about how wonderful the developed world is but my point is why does Laos want to be like that? Do they not know how to be individuals? Don't they know how to think for themselves? We need leaders to innovate and make decisions for the better of the Lao people and not for selfish intentions for the sake of looking like or competing with other countries.

You ask me what Laos needs to become developed? It needs leaders of tommorow who can bring the people to prosperity. When the people can have the freedom of being able to make their own decisions and control their own futures, be proud of who they are and have hope for the future, that to me means we are developed.

When a business/company fails, who is to blame, the owner/CEO. Parents are responsible for their children, governments are responsible for the people they represent.
Laos needs a change in leaders who can bring change that can better the peoples lives, until then, you guys can argue about which franchise has the better chicken.

P.S. The amount of broken english and quality of posts on this board really shows how developed Laos is to the rest of the world. I feel embarrassed and I hope this is not the best that we have to offer so prove me wrong someone.

you are absolutely right sir.
let's say in the old days, how many ppl could speak or write the broken english ?
it's broken, but we still understand what is your point. my hope is the future generation
to be able to speak and write the right ankit. for now is a lot better than nothing.
lao ppl around the world can communicate to each other using everyone use in the world technology.
i know, it's not at the high % in laos using internet. i know it's not perfect ankit use even they live for more than 2-3 decades in western countries. i know we don't spiik as native english speakers, but we can communicate, that is a good start isn't it?

P.S. for the god's shake we didn't have the opportunity to schooling as the new generation do, but
please, give the old folk credit for they sacrifice their life for the good future of the new generation on both sides of the word "LAO" (lao living in and out of LAOS).

Yes, these are all needed in Laos since we are not known as an exporter of goods or have a large number of investors who open up business in Laos. By having those businesses from the list above, it will be an excellent way to cater to & attract the tourists to come and visit our country so they can feel accommodated too. Just imagine how it could put a smile on your face to be able to have Lao food in another country when you go there for a vacation? So besides Lao cuisine, some tourists would seek familiarity so it wouldn't scare them off.

These are some of the examples that I can prove you wrong. Just because you can't speak English properly or can't speak at all that has nothing to do with the developed of your country. On the other hand it is good if you can speak more than one languages as fluently and properly as your own language. smile
