Ancient Laos legends tell of the giants who drunk water from these enormous mysterious “cups”. Similar sites were also found in Thailand and in North India. Their locations are strung along a straight line, which suggests that they were built on some kind of a trade route.

The Plain Of Jars is probably South East Asia’s most enigmatic tourist attraction. Situated in the remote north east of Laos, the mountainous communist country which has only been open to tourists for just over a decade, are hundreds of huge stone jars scattered across several square miles.

What are these stone jars made for and by whom? Where they are made from? Can anyone theorize or speculate?

Nobody really know for sure where those jars came from and the use of it.  Few people had wrote a book/articles regarding "the plain of jars".  They all have their own theory about these jars.

I hope to go there soon and check out those jars.

Khoun Juang's jars
Khoun Juang and his squards used to celebrate the victory here and jars were made to contain the lao lao  acording to the our accestors said. Make sense?

as a container of the lao lao - that is one of the many theories regarding these jars and there are several others that i have read. people like to speculate. it is an enigma seeing these hundreds of jars lying around. that should be a LOTTTT of lao lao. regardless, it adds to the mystique of laos. i hope everyone help in preserving it.

From Viangjan.   If I want to visit Thong Hy Hiin.   How can I go?  Do they have bus to go there? or Tour bus co.  to take you there.  Is the road dangerous? paved road? Are we safe from the bandit's mugging/robbing?

I wouldn't go by car or bus, I heard all sort of stories.  It depends on the time of the year, traveling times varies.  I would book a flight with Lao Airline, I think they have daily flight up to Xieng Kwang.  Once you get to Xieng Kwang, there are plenty tour guide company you can hire.

Take a bus directly, it depends on you whether want it fast or slow
many bag packers have chosen the bus on the Road 13.
