The Dauwoom Company from the Republic of Korea will invest more than US$20 million to build an international course golf and hotel in Luang Prabang, starting in January of next year.
According to the announcement, the signing ceremony was held at the provincial administration office recently, with Luang Prabang's Governor, Bounheuang Duangphachanh and the Dauwoom Company's President, Mr Lee.
“The company will construct this project for every visitor, both Lao and foreign, to enjoy, if they want to stay in a beautiful hotel and be able to play the sport golf in the province,” said the Deputy Governor of the province, Dr Khampheng Saysompheng.
This year Luang Prabang province hosted more than 100,000 foreign visitors, with a population of only 700,000 villagers inhabiting the province.
There are four phases to the project. The company will use more than US$5 million to build the course's first 9 holes and the hotel in the first phase from 2007 to 2008.
More than US$5 million will be used to expand the golf course to a full 18 holes in the second phase from 2008 to 2009.
“We will be able to provide this 18 hole in course golf for the 25 th SEA Games in 2009 when Laos will host,” he said.
A further US$5 million will be spent in the third phase, raising the golf course to a total of 27 holes from 2009 to 2010. Finally, the 36-hole course will be completed from 2010 to 2011, with another US$5 million investment.
The site will cover about 300 hectares.
“We believe that we will be able to organise an international golf tournament in our province when we finishing the full 36 holes,” he said.
This company will operate the golf club for about 50 years and, after that, it will present the property to Luang Prabang province.
“The people of Luang Prabang will be able to find employment at the golf course,” he said.
“We will have the biggest international course golf in Laos and there will be many foreign guests in the future,” he said.
“Furthermore, we want to support tourism in the district so we will keep the forest around the course golf. There are more than 10 wild elephants living in here,” he said.

No I don't. Isn it wrong to accept to relocate 700 households from an agricultural area in a land where an important number of people are suffering from hunger because of hard agricultural conditions ?

No I wouldn't support it because Luang Phabang is a world heritage site and should stay that way. we got plenty of land to do that, Why in Luang Phabang ? hopefully, PDR's government think it over again.
