Kilpauk Medical College NRI Quota – Admission, Eligibility, and Fee Details

One of Tamil Nadu's most prestigious government medical schools is Kilpauk Medical College (KMC), located in Chennai. It was founded in 1960 and is approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and associated with the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University. Based on their NEET-UG scores, the college accepts 150 students into the MBBS program each year.

However, many students who are NRIs, OCIs, and PIOs frequently look for information about Kilpauk Medical College's NRI quota. They want to know if there are any special seats, eligibility requirements, or higher fees for Indian students who are studying abroad.

Let's review all the information about NRI quota seats, eligibility, and the NEET-UG application process for NRI candidates seeking admission to Tamil Nadu's MBBS program.

Does Kilpauk Medical College Offer NRI Quota Seats?

According to Tamil Nadu state medical admission regulations, government colleges do not have a separate NRI quota, and Kilpauk Medical College is a government medical college.

Kilpauk Medical College's MBBS seat distribution is as follows:

  • 15% All India Quota (AIQ): Completed by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) through NEET-UG counselling.

  • 85% of the state quota was filled through state counselling administered by the Tamil Nadu government's Directorate of Medical Education (DME).

NRI/OCI/PIO candidates may still apply for MBBS admission under the All India Quota (AIQ) even if KMC does not have a specific NRI quota, as long as they fulfil the prerequisites for NEET eligibility and have a valid NEET score.

NRI Quota in Tamil Nadu Medical Colleges

  • Although there is no NRI quota at Kilpauk Medical College, Tamil Nadu does provide NRI seats in private and self-financing medical schools around the state. Under the NRI quota admission policy, which sets aside 15% of all seats in private medical schools for NRI and OCI students, they are overseen by the DME.

  • NRI candidates must have a valid NEET-UG score in order to be eligible for this quota.

  • Based on merit and the verification of documentation, seats are distributed.

  • Depending on the college, tuition costs can range from ₹20 lakh to ₹30 lakh year, which is more than the government quota seats.

  • All information is provided in the official MBBS/BDS admission prospectus, and the admissions procedure is centralised via Tamil Nadu's DME portal.

So, if you are an NRI student aiming to study MBBS in Tamil Nadu, you can apply for the NRI quota seats in private/self-financing colleges, but not in government colleges like Kilpauk.
