A dual plate check valve is a kind of check valve wherein the valve consists of two plates or discs, which are pivoted in the middle. The valve's plates are designed to open when the fluid is flowing through, so it can pass by and close when preventing the backflow of fluid.

This design, as compared to that of a traditional swing check valve, will allow for a valve size to be smaller while responding more quickly to changes in fluid flow. These kinds of valves work by having the kinetic energy of the fluid cause the plates to open opposite gravity and any springs or weights that might be incorporated to assist.

The dual plate check valve is made up of two halfmoon D-shaped closure plates hinged on a central hinge pin, and may freely rotate about the axis of the hinge pin. The closure plates are loaded with torsion springs. Two brackets on either side hold the hinge pin that is positioned on the body and contains the spring and plates. In order to keep the closing plates from sagging past the intended opening, brackets also hold the stop pin that is positioned above the hinge pin. In order to position the brackets below the lug provided in the body, the hinge pin, stop pin, torsion spring, and closure plates are assembled with the bracket. The entire assembly is then lifted and inserted perpendicular to the bottom rib of the body before being turned 90 degrees.
