Hello, due to some family marriage arrangements, I come into the prescence of Non-English speaking Lao elders when I go back to my home state, primarily around holiday times. I would love to be able to communicate with them. I feel bad because sometimes I am being asked things when no one is around to translate, and I feel rude when staring at them blankely. The few websites I have seen with helpful information is mostly just phrases where the meaning of the individual words and their exact translation isnt given, nor any good exolanation of grammar.
If anyone knows a good way to learn the language, I would greatly appreciate some information. I contacted the Rosetta Stone language software company, but they told me Lao was not in high enough damand so they had no plans of creating a Lao version of their product. I have only found 1 university so far that teaches Lao, but is not offered online, and not located anywhere near me. The Lao embassy never answered the message I sent them either. I am not in any major hurry, but at least trying to learn to communicate with them would be the most respectful thing I can think of. Thank you for your time.
