Why there are not many Chinese people in Laos during the French colonized Laos. Because the French didn't allow Chinese to settle in Laos or in other Indochinese countries.

The reason is that because China itself controlled by 7 countries, and the country was in turmoil. Chinese king was weak, people not united. The same with Laos ( in french history books ) french colonists said in their record book with illustrations, they said when we first arrived in Laos, we saw Laos king Laos people are primitive....recently I saw someone posted small vintages photos about Laos people under french occuption, women half naked....so the chineses at that time they had 7 humiliations ( ruled by 7 countries also in China history book to remind China's people about the past) you remember Yellow Perils.

It's true. Just a basic understanding of where Chinese dialects originate from would show Bangkok  Chinese came down the seacoast, even the old Chinese in Laos speak that dialect. It's only very recently that people can easily travel overland from Yunnan.
