(KPL) An estimated number of 110,000 foreigners are now working in the country, causing a problem for the host to find jobs for its own people.
Head of the Vocational Training Development and Worker Recruitment Department, Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, Mr. Khamkhanh Phinsavanh said that 80 percent of them worked illegally and the rest had Lao work permits.
He also said that the illegal workers found it easy to enter Laos as it shared long porous borders with four countries.
Another inducement for foreigners to come and work in Laos is that there is a rapid increase in job opportunities created by foreign investment projects.
Because of these reasons, the number of foreign workers, both legal and illegal, has been trending upwards over the last few years.
The government does not care as we could witness that the Chinese companies brought their own workers to work in Laos even in the Chinese casino or contruction workers to work in the mines or building the dam or rubber plantations so do the Vietnamese companies. So laotian have to cross the Mekong river to work in Thailand. Now the Thai government crack down on the foreign work in Thailand. So a lot of Laotian who work in Thailand will be in troubble.
It is a very sad story my dear Dark Angel, those workers are not in measure to give bribes " undertable" as we liked to call it and no one think of them...do you know why ? our good officials already have what they need, nice houses with sophisticated facilitiesand funitures, shining and celebrated cars, excellent environment in the working place...they see nothing except they house and their ministry, they are working from reports, fake report and sometime flower report and wine baskets along with Hehehe ! The flocking of foreign workers in our country is not that important for them and in the contrary, very important for "pho banh and Konglorn" of the village to get some money from them and kept their mouth shut !
