Bernama - Feb 23, 2010 -- Laos will simplify its customs procedures by installing a new online system at customs offices and border checkpoints across the country, Xinhua cited Lao newspaper the Vientiane Times as reporting Tuesday.
An agreement to install the Automated System for Customs Data ( ASYCUDA) World system in Laos was signed by Lao Customs Department Director General Santiphaab Phomvihaan and the United Nations Conference for Trade Development (UNCTAD) Representative Renaud Massenet here, said the newspaper.
The system will enable businesses and traders to pay customs duty via the Internet, saving both time and money and make customs clearance more efficient as well, according to the newspaper.
Under the agreement, about US$2.2 million will be spent on installing and testing the ASYCUDA World system at customs offices and border checkpoints across Laos over the next 27 months, said the newspaper.
Another four million U.S. dollars will be used to finance the installation and application of the ASYCUDA World system.
The government's decision to install the new system was part of its policy to modernize and industrialize Laos, as an effort to move Laos out of the list of least developed countries by 2020, the newspaper quoted Santiphaab as saying on Tuesday.
Customs officials said the new system would not only make revenue collection more efficient but also make it easier for people to do business in Laos. An improved business climate would bring more foreign investment to Laos, according to the newspaper.
i dont get it, it means that the trader or investor can play online by credit card?? that would be more convenient for oversea traders!!!! i hope the system can support Lao debit card.
What !!? more toys for them to do the corruption? Hell knowing the laotians they probably turn the system off half of time or else used the informations to threat you to do more corruption.
I believed this is the best system and good ideas but how the hell they going to pay when every customs officer is crook, poor vendors try so hard to do the business and end up working for custom officer....they say, no money no talk bull**** walk

Before they do that! Laos government should make the Visa entry rule change first. Laos still don't have Business Multiple Entry Visa yet! It's very hard for any one wanted to do business with Laos.
