The United States: The Land of 8.9 Million Millionaires April 05, 2007 by G. Stolyarov II G. Recent figures show that this number is actually much higher. Dr. Bill Belew of PanAsianBizreports that the U.S. has 8.9 million households worth at least 1 million dollars. This is compared to China with 300,000 millionaires and Russia with 88,000.
The millionaires are the prime movers of the economy; they are the Atlases that hold it up and fuel its progress through vast investments. Russia and China both have a rising class of millionaires-- and Russia has 3 times more millionaires per capita than China. This is promising for both countries' economic future-- which will be beneficial for the rest of the world as well, as it will result in increased exports of valuable goods and services from these countries.
Yet this news should also allay fears about the United States losing its "competition" with dynamic developing countries like China. The United States outnumbers China by a factor of about 30 in the absolute number of its millionaires and by more than 100 in the number of millionaires per capita. Chinese millionaires are prospering, but they will have to do from 30 to 100 times better to even possibly catch up with the United States! Americans have no reason for fearing their country's displacement from the position of the number-one economic power in the world.
America will not lose because of globalization; trade with the Western world has helped aspiring entrepreneurs in Russia and China become millionaires. Trade with Russia and China could help more aspiring American businessmen become millionaires as well. What is good for the millionaires is good for everyone else-- if their money was earned through honest work and commerce, not coercion or political exploitation

Most expensive but not the
biggest: Biltmore Estate (Ashville)
nor the most hi-tech: Bill Gates' mansion
"Visitors to Bill Gates House are surveyed and given a microchip upon entrance. This small chip sends signals throughout the house, and a given room's temperature and other conditions will change according to preset user preferences."
nor the prettiest: well this is subjective, will it leave it open

Washington Couple Claims $55 Million Mega Millions Jackpot! Couple "had a feeling" they held the winning ticket
OLYMPIA- Sommay Rattanakone (pronounced So-My Rah-tan-ah-cone) and his wife Xia (See-ah) Rattanakone both had a feeling they may be holding the winning ticket for the $55 million dollar Mega Millions drawing from Tuesday, October 17, 2006. The couple from North Bend purchased their Mega Millions ticket at the North Bend Safeway store and picked up a winning numbers report to confirm what their gut told them, that they were the winners of the second largest jackpot ever won in Washington State.
52-year-old Sommay returned home from work with the winning numbers report the day after the drawing, but wanted to take a nap before checking the numbers. Xia had another idea, she couldn't wait. "I heard her scream, 'We won!'" said Sommay; naptime was over. The couple spent the next few hours in disbelief talking about their big win. "I couldn't sleep," said Xia Rattanakone. "I woke up at 4am the next morning. We couldn't believe it. I prayed for this. It is a dream come true," she said. The couple turned in their winning ticket at the Lottery's Seattle office on Monday, October 23, 2006.
The windfall means the couple can retire early. Sommay works for Seattle Public Schools as a bi-lingual instructional assistant and Xia is temporarily employed by Nintendo. In addition, the couple plans to donate to an orphanage that has special meaning for them. "We plan on helping the Catholic orphanage in Laos. It was where Xia was raised before she was adopted and brought to the United States," said Sommay. The couple also plans to travel to Laos where Xia will search for her family history. "I don't know my parents. That is my wish to find them," she said tearfully.
In addition, the couple plans on investing in a new home, a new car and putting aside money for their two children's college education.

Yeah but she'll travel to Laos and spend it all there. It's a win win situation for every one. Except for me of course as I'm still poor.
