This is what i called Lao-Chiangmai or Lanna-lao.. these people more close to lao-Lanxang than central Thais.
Lanna people is not Lao der.
they don't think and don't call them self Khon Lao.
they call them self Khon Lanna or Khon Nue or Khon Mueng.
The Lanna people today don't call themselves "khon Lao" because they are not the citizens of the Lao PDR. However, the people of Lanna are ethnically and historically related to the Lao (not including the Lao Theuang or Lao Soung).
The people of Lanna consisted of many Tai related ethnic groups, examples are Tai Yuan, Tai Lue, Tai Yai and so on. The term "Khon Muang" is too general to refer to the population of Lanna. It is actually a new term that the Central Thais call the Northern people. Just like they call the North Easterner "Isaan"
Some certain groups of people in Northern Thailand still speak their native dialect, which is similar to either Vientiane or Luang Prabang dialect.

if that all of people in lanna migrated from laos cause they are all speak lao.
It's shown that you know notthing about Lanna. You don't even know how they speak you just assume that they speak Lao.
Tai Dum in Northern Thai speak lao but Lanna speak Kham Mueang which Most linguists consider Northern Thai to be more closely related to Thai and the other Chiang Saeng languages than to Lao and the Lao-Phutai languages, but the distinction is never easy to make, as the languages form a continuum with few sharp dividing lines.
Actually Lanna knows that they were once part of Lan Xang kingdom. but after more than 200 years under Burmese and Lao done notthing but abandon them and then another more than 200 years under Siam and Lao done notthing apart from calling them Lao do you thing Lao deserve to call Lanna Lao? If I were Lao I would be ashamed to do just that.
You know what maybe Lanna doesn't want to be called Lao for the same reason Lao doesn't want to be called Thai or Siam. Not because of Lao is a poorer country or anything.

Were your families borned at that time? 200 years ago? how there hell did you know that lao didn't do anything for lanna? bigger and strongers won the war.

You neither. So how the hell did you know that Lao did do somethings for Lanna?
If you can't say somethings smart just say nothing at all.

this is lao style on samakomlao o lala bro...
some Lao came from ancient Lanxang by timemachine and think Laos are biggest empire and say Lanna are part of we Isan are part of we but Lanna and Isan don't think like some Lao.
once again, lovely vintage photos... its nice to know that the water splashing revelries are present back then although not as rabid as they are these days....

Don't leave your root, khon Mueng is also Tai-Lao. And Khon Lanna is not Khon Siam. What about sticky rice? Any Thai Siam eat Khaw neaw? But Xiangmai, Xiangrai, Lampang, Phrae, Nan, Lamphun, Maehongson, Uttaradith and some Part of Tak + Sukhothai do.
These are Lanna or Tuamueng Alphabet. So so far similar to Thai Siam Alphabet but so so close to Lao Alphabet. Wake up and find out the fact who you are!

I agree with you here, why we can’t just enjoy the photos.
I don’t understand why some Lao (Americans) try so so hard to rerate Lao people to those Lana and Issan people. We learned the history and it is the past now. I live happily in Laos, and I don’t see the need to be related to anyone to make us stand tall.
The Northern dialect is more closely related to Lao than it is Central Thai. These days however, the influence of Bangkok has somewhat obscured this fact with the introduction of a lot of Central thai words. A Northern Thai can understand Lao relatively well yet a Central THai cannot understand eithER Northern or Lao dialects unless the conversation is sprinkled with Central Thai words.
Even Northern Thai people said that their culture and language are similar to Myanmar.
I don't understand why you Laos have to say this is ours that is ours. I accept that Laos and Lanna got quite similar cultures, but less than Myanmar. So sick of someone here that loves to stick in the part and not move on.
