    HONG KONG, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong signed an air services agreement with Lao People's Democratic Republic here on Wednesday, setting up the legal framework for the establishment of direct air links between the two places.

    According to a release by the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the document is the 60th of its kind ever signed between the region and its partners.

    Speaking at the signing ceremony, Hong Kong's Secretary for Transport and Housing Ms Eva Cheng said the signing of the agreement is "in line with our policy of progressive liberalization in air services between Hong Kong and our aviation partners."

    She expressed the belief that the agreement will "boost tourism and contribute to economic development" in Hong Kong and Laos.

I'm not sold on these signing agreements.  I'll be happy when I can actually book a flight from Hong Kong to Vientaine.

Whatever happen to Japan Airline that will start a flight between Japan to Laos?  Just teasing the public??

yess, dont want to say anything yet but a direct flight from any where to laos is good news.

i hate landing in thailand = (

Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, anything to not have to land at BKK.

I can see it now...~20 hours travel time from NY to VTE.

That would be nice.

We must know what is the airliner to come to Lao. Is it just low cot airline or main airline such like Cathay Pacific or China Airline but Air China I would say good bye I dare not to take any kind of made in China

 Anyway, I like to landed in Bangkok as I like to go for shopping first before fly back to Laos. Nice and big airport too.

yes, I read the similiar article that Guangzhou (china) woul open the directly flight to Vientiane in Nov 2006, i don't know what happened to them, now there is no any direct flights yet between big city of china and Laos, but as for this news, I am glad to hear that at least there is a news about the direct flight from Hk to Laos, hopefully this plan will act very soon.

wow yes! Now I don't have to go to bangkok and waste my money there since I rather spend most of my dollers in Laos instead. yeah! way the go I hope the best wish for laos and connection to the world.

There was a direct flight from Eva Airline via Taipei to Vientiane a while back in 2005 But they have cancel that. Anyone know why?

I Also hate landing in Thailand x.x
