At least 100,000 illegal Laotian workers worked quietly in Thailand

(KPL) According to the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare at least 300,000 illegal and legal Laotian workers were in Thailand, while Laos had been receiving many legal and illegal foreign workers.

Department of Skills Development and Employment and Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare reported yesterday that it would cooperate with Thailand to have a joint meeting in September to assess the results of the bilateral cooperation framework and to raise certain issues, such as illegal labour, temporary labour, employment agencies? shortfall and work safety.

Mr Bounma, Deputy Director General of Skills Development and Employment Department confirmed yesterday that as there were many illegal workers in Thailand, so that the two governments would work hand in hand to get them to leave the country.

Some of them crossed over to Thailand to seek jobs after they had harvested their crops during the dry season and this was said by the local authorities here.
The local authorities disclosed over the last few years some of the Lao illegal workers in Thailand worked on a seasonal basis and they were found in the garment factories, fishing industry, domestic workers and others.

Mr Bounma also said that at least 100,000 illegal workers were in Thailand and it would be a matter of time before they were caught and expelled.

He said that the main reason for the influx of Laotians workers to Thailand was due to the low pay and poor fringe benefits in their home country.

In the meantime the Association of the Lao Garment Industry told KPL News last month that it would recruit more skilled and unskilled workers, the workers would be getting attractive pay packages, within the band width, 450,000 kip to 568,000 kip per month and with the provision of benefits like dormitory and meals.

Yesterday, Department of Skills Development and Employment said that it was getting some countries to give reasonable wages to Lao legal workers and that this was part of the government?s effort to reduce the flow of illegal workers from Laos.

Regarding this, this department said it was happy to report that Thailand would recruit 10,000 more Laotian workers to work in her factories and Japan would welcome 3,000 Laotian workers to work in Japan.

As for monetary pay, Japanese employers would pay Laotian workers US$ 500 per month and for Thailand, they would get 200 baht a day.

Recently, Vientiane Times quoted a report from the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare that more than 250,000 illegal foreign workers were in Laos, holding jobs as construction workers, hairdressers, car washers and
others.

However, this Ministry warned that it would expel any illegal worker in Laos if they were caught.

because it's easy to go to Thailand and work in anywhere in Thailand due to the similar of language and people. it's like Thavisouk who swam across the Mekong river with plastic bag during the War. it's easier to go to Thailand nowadays, some entry to the country legally with a passport or paper permitted and the Majority of workers entry the country illegally because there is some sources ,friends or sponsors want them to work in a low paid.

i know many people in my hometown who used to work in thailand and some are still there and lost contact with them, you can say that they are missing.

it 's easier to work in Thailand, if you are lucky, you probably earn more money than work in Laos, but you have to workhard in thailand, thought

Filipino is everywhere in middleeast. Such as in UAE you know the local Emirati is about 11% of the whole population in UAE. The biggest population in UAE is Indian workers, 2nd is Filipino or Pinoy about 2 millions Filipino working and living there. Thailand people are so little about 80,000 mostly working in the five to seven stars hotels, resorts & Spa and some work as the construction worker which mostly from E-san

Because the Philippine government has special agreement and maintaining good relationship with the countries in the middle east. Also processing of papers dont take long, like the working visa, etc. Another factor is that we have a lot of muslim brothers and sisters who can blend well in the middle eastern culture, so no problem with cultural assimilation. Lastly, the (middle east, USA, Europe, Hongkong and other western countries) prefer because Filipinos are hardworking, dont complain too much unless they feel being abused (physically, mentally or emotionally) and can speak english well, and learn other languages fast.

Yes I agree  with you. But Filipino was ruled by Westerner since 1521 by Spain, even the name of Philippines was also named by the King Philip II of Spain in 16th Century until 1946 United States finalized Philipines independence

Filipino lost their Asian identity long time ago. They have only Tagalog speaking language but no scrips language. English is teaching everywhere in school by follow American. They are just like American states in Asia. That's it. BUt the country still average poor. Many of Filipino flew to work oversea as they can speak English well compare to other country in Asia but if you know some Filipino, you will found that you may don't like them as their behaviour is no to impressed and can not be trusted. Filipino has just Falang living in Asian body only. No Asian culture as 200-300 years ago..they just wearing banana leave living in the island.

In Middle east is plenty of Filipino workers but no one like Filipino as their behaviour. If you don't believe me, please go & ask some Indonesian, Thai, Indian or Chinese or even Arabic people too. They all say the same.

Anyway, I say this doesn't mean our Lao people is good enough to compare with Filipino as our economic is not the same as them. We are poor country but we rich in culture and Asian ancient tradition eventhough we was under Thai-Franch colonial and almost lost our Language scription but luckily we've got it back. Thanks for Langauge Scrip Creator to bring back our Lao language again.

But it has not lost its identity 100% because there are still many tribes in the rural communities that maintain their old culture and tradition and not influenced by any of the previous colonizers. Considering its an archipelago, not 100% of the country has been captured by them. But similar to other countries, the country is in a big extent represented by the cities. What you are seeing probably is the mirror reflected by the cities to the rest of the world. But have you been to the rural communities? There are still a lot who wear traditional clothes daily (not the banana leaves though) and practice traditional ways.

You may say Filipinos have lost its identity, but it has adopted different cultures that is the very essence that made them flexible and unique; e.g. the ability to assimilate and acculturate has actually gave them the advantage. In every nation there are good and bad people, maybe you only listened to the negative comments.

I said enough, this is getting off topic. Maybe now you can answer the question why Lao people like to work in Thailand?

Though it is an irrefutable fact that you retain the same right and privilege as others to post your comments here, but your perception of Filipinos is rather seemed to be too broad and generalized especially when you said no one likes them on the ground that they have bad behaviors and untrustworthiness. All races have created good and bad images to certain degree depending on their custom and culture.  Older generation of Laotian Americans who have lived in the states for more than 20 years are no exception when it comes to their behaviors. I had witnessed in my own eyes. They talked with their mouthful of food, slurping the moment they eat until they swallow, sticking their fingers in their nostrils in the front of public, tasting each other saliva by sharing a bowl of soup and the list of ill manners goes on. Your rants go even further to state that they all lost their identity, which is simply untrue for most of them.

I have come across many highly respectable Filipinos and Filipinas from ordinary folks to nurses, teachers, college students and others during my years of interactions with them; they were just like anyone else. Some are quite friendly and some are not sociable, but most, share the same Asian values. There is a yearly cultural celebration of Asian and Asian Pacific.  I was lucky enough to get invitation and I was fascinating with variety of feast. People from all walks of life came together for that important day and I felt absolutely welcome. I also got invited for their birthday party a few times.  Some of the American born Filipino teenagers are pathetically looking down on their fellow Asians especially Chinese.  Some even claimed that they are not part of Asia by identifying themselves as Islanders bluntly dismissed their "Asian Origin" but these arrogant kids just lacked basic understanding of history and geography, which is not uncommon in the United States. Also, I just want to let you know that not only Tagalog is widely spoken in Philippines but so is Ilocano. By the way, I was born in Mahosot Hospital with 2 Filipina-nurses by my side and I considered myself very lucky in those days because majority of Laotians gave births at home.

I hope you refrain from generalizing about certain races. It is ok though if you occasionally do it for humorous purpose. Lastly, I just want to point out to you a word "scription" I don't think we have an English word for that. I do know there is a word "scripture" but we usually use it when we refer to a Bible, a Testament in religions like "Holy Scripture"

Regards,

I said enough, this is getting off topic. Maybe now you can answer the question why Lao people like to work in Thailand?

I know you are non-cultural heritage Filipino. What are you doing here for? Here is Lao webboard. Here is not welcome Pinoy people. Go away. Don't let me sake you out of here. Blue Sky

So you have to use my picture to carry out your comment? because you can't stand up to Filipino men you can only cat fight how sad.

Btw: that picture looked blurry not like the real one .

Though it is an irrefutable fact that you retain the same right and privilege as others to post your comments here, but your perception of Filipinos is rather seemed to be too broad and generalized especially when you said no one likes them on the ground that they have bad behaviors and untrustworthiness. All races have created good and bad images to certain degree depending on their custom and culture.Older generation of Laotian Americans who have lived in the states for more than 20 years are no exception when it comes to their behaviors.

There is a yearly cultural celebration of Asian and Asian Pacific.I was lucky enough to get invitation and I was fascinating with variety of feast.

Recently, Vientiane Times quoted a report from the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare that more than 250,000 illegal foreign workers were in Laos, holding jobs as construction workers, hairdressers, car washers and
others.

However, this Ministry warned that it would expel any illegal worker in Laos if they were caught.

and the answer is " people go where they think is benifit to them"

Why are more than 65% of Thai populations is Chinese or Chinese decent.  This is fact!

The reason why Laotian work in Thailand is because there is actually job that are available there and they can earn more money then those in Laos. Laos need to solve this issue and make more jobs for those who really need a sort of jobs to earn money in Laos. And while laotian in laos still going to laos there might be a racial and news about laotian comming in illegally for jobs thats why Thais are anoyed by so many laotian working there just like the mexican in America.

Well, I couldn't be wrong because I was born with a Fillipino and a Filipina by my side, but I knew nothing much about Vientiane though because 3 months after my birth, my paternal grandmother took me to Thakhek, the realm of Phor Seekhod. And with his Holy Blessing, BLM, (despite risking gunshots and wound or even death or maim, by Sahai merciless commie in the 80s) had made it to the United States of America.  "My endless memories of you-Thakhek My Love"

I know people would have to pass Thakhek when they travel from north to south or from south to north and they all got the blessing from the Lord Seekhod.  Just so you know chiip, pv1laugh.gif Thakhek has amazingly stood the test of time throughout the First and the Sixth Monarchy until present day and this town of Phor Seekhod remains undaunted to any obstacles. His Holy Spirit continues protect us all either during the peacetime or the wartime.  Thakhek ard harn, from Houa Nang Lee to See Mouang, Nabo, Chomchang, Chomphet, Chom Thong, Chomkeo all the way to Nong Boak, Na Mun Pa, and Sarn Ta Xae Bung Fai are ready to repel any potential enemies at all costs.

I am BLM, the true son of Lord Seekhod fully pledge to always have Thakhek Dan Ngarm in my heart and soul until my death. I shall not ever renounce the irreplaceable faith and deepest reverence from me to you. Lastly, I shall always hold you to the highest as my only true father "Seekhod" the bravery above all. worship.gif

Oh by the way chiip, grandma told me that Lord Seekhod had cursed Thakhek for the betrayal by his father-in-law, but this should have come to an end now. So Thakhek is once again ready to leap the prosperity in the 21st century.  smile

That is right that Laotian eat the sticky rice and Padak and speak the same language  and have the same culture  and religion with Esan people and the Esan people are helping Laotian from Laos in Thailand that is why Laotian never go to Vietnam and China to work. Thailand is better investor than Vietnam and China because Thailand doesn't send million of Thai people to settle in Laos and steal the jobs away from Laotian in Laos.

Hey , man there are some Vietnamese kids who love to insult Laotian and Thai .Please , behave as the educated and civilize people. Yes there are prostitutes every where because they are poor and would like to survive . Those also the Lao and The government job to resolve the problems by insulting the poor prostitutes and poor people who are the victim that is so cruel instead of blaming the government who are corrupted and don't provide good education and created the jobs the the people.

Lao people have to go work in Thailand, because they don't have they same rights as those illegal Vietnamese & Chinese for employments in Laos cuz the government does not have the ability to make labor law that will protect the local Lao.

Why the Lao government have to spend money to educate and train those people? You are Lao Nork and if you have the family and relatives in Lao and want your family and relative to be educated and trained So why don't you pay for their training and education. Why don't you go back to Laos and open the business and hire those people who have no job and became the prostitutes. Don't you have to blame the government for their stupid action to be prostitute and cheap labors in Thailand.
