Have anyone of you read any of Colin Cotterill books about series of mysteries revolving around the fictitious character named Dr. Siri Paiboun?
His books, currently 5 in all, are all written and printed in Lao PDR. The stories are quiet amusing and interesting, sometimes even funny. But the greatest about these series of books is that ALL income from the sale of the books shall remain in Laos and that teh money will be used to help support education in remote villages by providing scholarships to young Lao trainee teachers who ahve committed to return to their remote home villages to teach the new generation of Lao youth. Part will also be used to support rehabilitation of bomb victims and help promote Lao literacy among children.
I recommend these books and hope that you enjoy reading them, while knowing that you have given your share in helping the beneficiaries of above mentioned projects. Titles include: * The Coroner's Lunch * Thirty-three Teeth * Disco for the Departed * Anarchy and Old Dogs * Curse of the Pogo Stick
Maybe to those returning Lao Nork, you may consider purchasing these books as take home gifts to fellow Lao when you get back to the US, Japan or whereever.
Im not sure if the titles are already out in the international market because I bought my collection while I was in Laos. YOu can find it in any bookstore or even in grocery stores in VNT near Mekong. Yes, maybe you could try Amazon.com. They are affordable and interesting.
I think you will be able to help better if you will buy the books from Laos, unless you don not have a chance to visit the country.
