i am planing to buy a blackberry to use in Laos, can I ? what company support the blackberry service in Laos, Lao tel? ETL?
Thanks
I hope it isGSM/ Quad band phone and it is unlocked. Laos support 900 MHz band.
They have SMS service for texting but I don't know if anything special set up is required for Blackberry. Name brand phone like this are not popular in Laos. They mostly use Thai or Chinese phone. You can get a Chinese phone with keyboard and camera, kind of like a Nokia, at about $100.
I used mostly TIGO when I was in Laos. I have no problem with the connection.
People will tell you to get the other carrier like M-Phone because I think that is all you will see. Their advertisements signs are everywhere.
Here is my personal experience: I was way way out in the countryside. Everyone in my group had m-phone but they couldn't get a signal. The signal on my Tigo was still good. I was laughing so hard at their face because they tease me about getting Tigo.
DOn't take my word for it. Experience it yourself.
If you are planing to go to Laos and bring your own phone, Forget it, it' wasting time. Today, In laos, they already have created easier for foriegners or Lao-noks. if you are planing to spend the whole month. Just lease it. Cheap and easy. But, if you really want your own highteach baby with you make sure it' GSM mobile phone, ok...
i use Tigo for BB push mail server. it works just fine but, thier system/pushmail server has crashed twice in 2010. meaning i had to reconfigure my settings all over again.
you have to get a post paid service plan to use this service.
although the service works, i have some gripes about thier IR service. thier IR only covers a few countries and thier DATA IR service covers even less.
need to be very clear on where you travel to as thier DATA IR coverage is almost non existent for anything out of SE Asia.
