Lao officials continue to take measures to prevent swine flu outbreak by using temperature measuring equipments installed at their international border checkpoints to check both Lao and foreign passengers traveling to and from the country.
Mr. Cheuang Sombounkhanh, Minister to the Prime Minister's Office and the Lao government's Chief of Staff, said that although currently there is no A-H1N1 swine flu case reported in Laos, authorities have taken necessary measures to prevent an outbreak because the government has issued an urgent order for officials to take all the necessary preventive steps, especially the daily monitoring of the temperature of both Lao and foreign
passengers arriving at and departing from Laos' international border checkpoints across the nation.
Mr. Sombounkhanh made the statement at the ceremony to accept a thermo scanner or temperature measuring equipment, the first such equipment provided to Laos, as a gift from the government of Singapore. The scanner, valued at 75,000 US dollars, was installed at the Vientiane International Airport at Wattay, where most of the arriving and departing passengers pass through. Officials say there are over 100 thousand people traveling in and out of the country daily.
