Red was the only paint left for that day and they decide to use it all up. Hahahahhah I doubt it, if it is a meaning behind the color.

I haven't seen buddha painted in red before.
This is weird color for buddha. I guess whoever decided to paint him in red probably wants this statue to stand out.

Maybe it is a primer. They put this on first before the paint it to the final color.

the painting is not done yet.
look at and around the left eye, it has different color. confuse

They are making the Buddha statue. See the metal can and shovel? See the white color on the metal frame? It is probably from the limestone mixture or some sort use to make the statue. The red color is a base color they paint the Buddha before they paint the final color. The final color would adhere to the statue better when they paint over that red paint which I think it is a primer.
