(KPL) Two thousand eight hundred fifty eight have been confirmed infected HIV, according to the National Anti HIV/AIDS Centre.
President of Lao Red Cross, Dr Snivorast Sramany, said that the report made in June says HIV infection rate of women has been increase from 0.9 per cent in 2001 to 2.02 per cent in 2004.
The report also said that the HIV infection rate was high in some provinces, particularly in Vientiane, 30 out of 540 men who had blood test were identified infected HIV, and 5.6 per cent of the infected confessed they had the same sex relations.
Dr Snivorast urged the National Anti HIV/AIDS Centre and the International Red Cross to pay attention to preventing HIV/AIDS in order to reduce HIV infectious rate in Laos, especially the infection rate among military officials and policemen who are said having the highest rate of the same sex relations compared to other group of people.
He also asked the participating parties to pay more attention to the expansion of anti HIV/AIDS projects to communities across the country to reduce the infection of HIV.
It is unbelievable that Lao policemen and soldiers still taking a nab during the day time. They are practicing the lazy habits of the old time for the under developed countries and the colonial era.
