(KPL) Four bag snatchers who were arrested by police last Novemberafter having found a guilty.
The police office of Sikhottabong district, Vientiane Capital disclosed this week that they cooperated with local police to hunt a group of bag snatchers operating in Vientiane Capital.
During their one-month joint operation they managed to arrest four bag snatchers, who were involved in snatching the bags of motorists Criminal police officials told journalists that the four bag snatchers are Mr Khonsavanh, 18, Mr Sonxay, 16, Mr Sonphet, 18 of Somboun village, Sikhottabong district and another one who lived in Non-keo village, Sikhottabong district, Vientiane.
After their arrest, they confessed that they operated as a group and that they have been operating as bag snatchers since November. They told the police that they snatched the properties of pedestrians and the bags of motorists.
Some of victims not only lost their money but the robbery on the road and while they were in motion caused them to crash their vehicles, resulting in injuries and even deaths.
The police also said that the majority of bag snatchers are students whose favourite sactivities are alcohol consumption, smoking cigarettes and spending time in pubs.
The educational bodies reported that there is an increase in the number of young Lao people who are involved in such activities and one of the reasons is that they were not being closely supervised by their parents and school authorities.
Some Lao students who were wearing their school uniforms were even seen drinking alcohol in the beer gardens and pubs.
The police officers were aware of such a trend and they urged members of the public to provide guidance to their family members so as to alleviate such a problem.
