The heading of this topic is false. Laos is not the only communist country left on this earth.

Without doing any research, I can come up with one or two off my head. Cuba and China.

i.e., "One of the Last Communist Countries"

dont forget china.

russia is making a come back in recent years as their economy gets stronger.

I don't know maybe laos need to be re-united with Thailand and life would be much better or even worst. I heard many of people always want to make love with thai girl so, why can't we just call ourself Khonthai and be happy after all.
But of Us here still want to be viet cong, so maybe sao viet are looking better than sao lao or thai, huh?

We should be proud that we are an communist country.

People all over the world want to visit Laos, because they want to know what is all about being a communist. After they come, they all falling in love with communist way of living style in Laos. Learning about communist in a book is not work, people have to come and see the real thing. I don't want the communist to be disappeard like a dianosours.

I hope the UNESCO will give a world heritage to the whole country of Laos as the country that best preserve communist.

i think if you can find happiness being governed by a communist gov't then
we should be happy for you and your way of life.

I was learned from the OG, once i setdown and have a drink with them. Then they started talking about political issued, i was kind of buzz and came out with a word. What is really laos going to do if the american wants to help and run the country?

people came to visiting Laos because Laos has beautiful country side, mountains, rivers, etc...the land hadn't touch by industrial remind them of their home land like maybe 30, 40 yrs. ago

Most tourists i have seen are backpacker travel through out SouthEast Asian, they are very tight on their spending and cost of living in Laos is so cheap.

Oh, The world heritage Luangphabang is the used to be France town and King loyal place, and who build those old structure building, France people right?

I Think Laos will be following the world, but now the communist system is priority in Laos. Laos probably has their own characteristic in communism in the future.

I glad to hear that some people call my country communism or socialism. As far as I know we all Lao people always dream to have such a country, where people can enjoy their live equally according to theory.

However, it's too far to be such a country. We expect that probably in 500 years or more we would have such a country. Personally, I feel communism is just utopia, it could never happen on earth. At least, our country can be socialism one day it would be great for Lao people.

But having said that, probably having a big and high goal would be better than having a low goal as said long time ago by Great German writer.

By the way, our name country there is no word mentioned about comminism. Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao PDR).

Please remeber that Communism , Socialism and capitalistism are the human society, therefore do not critized each other. Lao Nation had gone thought thousands of year of existent and eveolution and has experienced a mumber of painful period of history as result of the country's falling under domination and colonization of foreign power. now the also people stood up and become mastery of the Country, live in peace, stability and enjoin with development and in this regards, I support the efforts of current Lao Govermment and party to United the Lao Nation stand forever. we should respect the right to sefl-determination of each country, China, Vietnam. Cuba, N.Korea and Russia, 3 of them have the Nuclear weapons and they always stay with Lao people and are good friends of the Lao Government and party to protect the our sovereingty

I agreed with the view of lao Young generation and I wanted to add that if you closley monitor the international situation, now our good friend, Russia had upgraded and made the special relationship with Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, which they are in the back yad of America, the worl will turn to Multipolar world system very soon, friends of Laos are almost strong and have Nuclear weapons to protect themsefl and destroy the enimy of commismamd socialism in any time and avery where in the world .

ppl do you ask yourself, what will be the benefits of the reunion?
from the experience over the past, all of the unions broken up, breaking right now and some will break in the near future. take for e.g. USSR/CCCP and Yougoslavia. The bad thing of the union is: the bigger, smarter countries try to get the resources from the smaller countries. That's all about reunion.
Don't tell me, that some body care of anyone ?! If some lao nork wants to reconcialtion with lao nai, that he can become the boss. He can benefits of.
Otherwise anyone can go and live in Laos freely. Whoever (laotian by birth)gets a problem going home, that mean, he did bad thing to Laos and lao ppl in the past. This person/ppl never wants any good for Laos or lao ppl.
