The Lao national muay lao squad poses outside the Lao National Sports Committee office. Mr Noukhit Latsaphao (51 kg weight division) won a gold medal and a trophy belt, by defeating kick-boxers from Japan , Singapore and Thailand .
Mr Noukhit won his final round bout with his powerful knee and was pleased with the crowd support.
Kick-boxers from six countries, including Singapore , the Philippines , Japan , Laos , China and Thailand competed in the 51kg weight division.
Mr Xayvideth Chanphith won a silver medal in the 57kg division; while Mr Soukla-kay Chantha and Mr Phetphoukhong Va-manysa both won bronze medals in the 60kg and 48kg categories respectively.
In the 54kg category Ms Souksakhone won a bronze medal and Ms Vongdeuan Chanthanivong also won a bronze medal competing in the 57kg weight division.
Both Mr Noukhit and Mr Xayvideth are from the Phetphengkhuan camp in Vientiane . Muay Lao Federation President Mr Saisamone Xayasone expressed his satisfaction at the success of the national muay lao squad.
The federation is hopeful Lao fighters can win gold medals at the SEA Games to be held in Vientiane next year.
Twenty-five nations sent kick-boxers to compete in the event, which comprised of 45, 48 and 51 to 91kg weight divisions for men and 45 to 67 kg categories for women.
The Lao Star Television Channel and Km5 Concrete Company provided funds to enable the national muay lao team to compete in the event.
Despite winning medals at the cup, the fighters are not guaranteed a place in the national team, but will have to prove their skills at the eighth National Games to be held in Champassak province in December.
Lao national trainer Mr Somsa-nga Phimmachan said winners from the national muay lao competition to be held in Vientiane next year would be eligible to join the national team for the SEA Games.
