I've heard travellers raving about this UNESCO heritage site...
and the Laos website states thats this was hailed, TOURISM destination of the world for 2008, by some American magazine.
Being labelled as Tourism destination of the year may be a kiss of death to any World Heritage site. It will breed markets selling products made in China, pirated DVDs galore. I would really hate to encounter pimps selling sex if I am walking along a supposed world heritage site.
When I say over rated, I mean, I've heard people saying that it is like EUROPE, it makes them feel like they are back home. I have not been to Europe, so that should make it so interesting. But none of their photos support their enthusiastic proclamations.
I am expecting Temples and Pagodas... and its everywhere in Chiang Mai. I also think that the Mekong Cruise is going to be the saving grace. Vang Vien seem interesting.
Are people just being egotistical when they praise LAOS, as one of the most beautiful places on earth. They say that coz fewer travellers ever been to Laos, compared to Thailand.
Over rated?? I dont think so!!! Luangprabang have this charm that capture most people heart that visited there... well, at least it did with me when I first visited there back in 2005... since than, I've been back 2 more times.. I can't get enough of that town..
But!!! I have to admitted.... Luangprabang is getting more and more crowded with fa lung... they said soon it will be like second city of Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai, Thailand.
Luang Phrabang is NOT Chiang Mai. I don't know what the hell the original author was thinking, they're two separate places, two separate cultures. If you wanted lots of Temples and Stupas, why didn't your ass just stick in Chiang Mai!?
Please original poster, give us the link to where this article came from. I am sure its someone's blog out there.
Luang Phrabang is not overrated. Its the way the Royal city was, and has always been.
nope, Luangprabang is not over rated, beautiful as fucc, I've been to Europe, I've been the the Bahamas, and I've been to Paris, and it seems like they have all that in Luangprabang, plus Luangprabang people was one of the most respectful people I've meet........come to my city of CHICAGO...an u'll know wats up!
