Danish brewery group Carlsberg A/S said on Monday (17 December) that it has acquired a 70% stake in Lao Soft Drink Co Ltd in Laos.
The remaining shares are held by the government of Laos.
Lao Soft Drink bottles Pepsi, 7-Up and other brands, and is the country's leading soft drinks company with a 90% market share. The company has a 290 employees.
Carlsberg already owns 50% of the brewery Lao Beer Co Ltd.
Carlsberg, headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark, is one of the world's largest brewery companies, with over 30,000 employees at 92 production sites in 48 countries. Carlsberg is listed on the OMX Nordic Exchange in Copenhagen.
I dont think this is a good idea for the Lao govt. to have only 30% of its long held and profitable company and to let foreign investors to make more profits the nthe govt.
can any economist give some kinds of explanation to this issue please????
