The current Route13 bridge at Ban Hin Heub is in bad shape...

The Japanese government through the Japan International Cooperation
Agency has contributed more than 60 billion kip (about US$7 million)
to replace the existing Hinheup Bridge , which dates back to 1915.

The first task is to clear the site and build a camp for the
construction workers. The new bridge, scheduled for completion in
2009, will be 195 metres long by 10 metres wide, with footpaths along
both sides. It will be located about 200 metres away from the existing
bridge.

National Road No 13, the country's main north-south artery, crosses
this bridge, which has been awaiting replacement since the
superstructure was washed away by flooding in 1981. Mr Aloun explained
that the bridge had been repaired, but has to bear an increasing
quantity of traffic, particularly heavy and overloaded trucks, so a
new bridge is required for reasons of safety
