(KPL) The Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare last Thursday in co-operation with the National Sports Committee held a welcome ceremony for the winners of Special Olympic in Shanghai, China, between 2-11 October.
The ceremony was attended by Minister of Labour and Social Welfare, Ms Onchanh Thammavong, and her deputy Mr Ley Kakanya, along with the representatives of Education Ministry and the embassies of China and Thailand in Vientiane.
In the ceremony, Head of Lao Special Olympic Athletes, Dr Bounhome Kanthavong, said “We have sent six mentally disabled athletes aged between 8-22 years old to joint Bocces (Italy’s bowling like games) and 200-m running.” Laos has won two gold and silver medals from Bocces, and three gold, silver and bronze medals from 200m running, said Dr Bounhome.
In the ceremony, Ms Onchanh expressed congratulations on the victory of the athletes, which has raised the role of the country in international arenas. She also urged the athletes to pay greater attention to their practice for the future competition.
