"Mate" is a synonym for "friend" and sounds British, or Australian.

LAOMATE mightt sound good to Ausie, Kiwi, or Brit.....but mate have different meaning in American-English.

I am 100% Kone Lao by genetic (DNA). But, mentally I am 80% American and 20% Lao...you know...being born here. I can read phasa Lao probably equivelent of a 5th grade here. But my Lao writing skill is kindergarden. I can type better but I need to get use to Lao keyboard layout.

Well, that just to bad about the name. I am guessing that you guys are educated in Australia.

Here are MATES in American English:

Classmates =  fellow students who are in the same classroom with you

Roommate, housemate =  the person who rents/shares the same apartment with you

Soulmate =  your significant other/your spouse/husband or wife 

Any others ?

Laomate sounds like a dating service website, but what the heck, go for it webmaster, you might find your own soulmate as well or you already have one !
