LOS ANGELES: A US man was jailed for 10 years by a federal court in Los Angeles after pleading guilty to child sex offences in Thailand, justice officials said.
Steven Prowler, 58, a former Bangkok-based English teacher, admitted at a court appearance earlier this year a string of pedophilia offences involving two teenage boys, a statement from the Justice Department said.
He was prosecuted on charges of traveling abroad with the intent to have sex with a minor and engaging with sexual conduct with minors in another country.
Prowler was arrested in May 2005 after police in Bangkok acting on a tip saw two youths leaving his apartment.
The boys aged 15 and 16 admitted Prowler had paid them for sex.
A subsequent raid found more than 100 photos of naked teenage boys, and a series of journals where Prowler described sex abuse he had engaged in Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Mexico.
Prowler was prosecuted under US laws which allow authorities to jail those involved in crimes against children which take place overseas.
Crazy People again. This is nothing new people, but at least there is some justice in this world. I hope they'll catch more people like him, who's using their power and money over others.
I believe it's still wrong whether lao men or western men who seek to have sex with under age. Lao government should join the civilised world and educate lao men, ' to do this sort of thing is dead wrong' simple as that. Poverty could drive people in desparated way....that's why we must break the POVERTY CIRLCE, for a young girl who chose or lured into this way, it means there is no dignity left. For lao men if we believe in BUDDHISM then we must know these sort of act is agaisnt SEEN 5. WRONG. Use your money in the right way. Buy good clothes and send them to kids in country sides in poor villages.
The unfortunate thing is that it happens everywhere in the world, but decent and civilised world still regardes these things are wrong. In Australia I saw time after time, documents from BBC , ABC of Australia showing ' Under ages or children as young as 10 Sex traffacking, Sex brothels, Sex slaves in Europe....it showed us the ugly and uncivilised of this issue. In Cambodia BBC reporter went under cover posed as a western man looking to have sex with young children, he went into a brothel, they showed him lot of children as young as 10, he paid and got the girl into the room, then changed the tactic, he told the owner of the brothel that he must go back to his hotel for something, and then the BBC reporter came back with cambodian police, sadly what he found is an empty house, not a single child to be found.....so there was no evidence for the crooks to be caught. BBC reporter believe cambodian police also envolved in this sort of business, that's why they raised alarm to the crooks in the brothel to move everything out of the building before the cambodian police arrived. It happenned in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam....in Europe particularly estern europeans are poor that's why many young girls and women became sex slave in western europe, some girls or women are bitten, or bashed if they did not serve or do the job.....for the customers they were forced into. All are true. It happenned everywhere but Officially civilsed world still stated this is dead wrong. 100%
