Not bad. Globalization makes people close to each other. Our western tourists will feel like they are in their countries when they see the performance of these singers. They may want to come again and again.
In this regard, I remember Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, the leader of Singapore, once said that they will make Singapore to be nothing less than Washington, Paris or London. What they have, Singapore should have either. No wonder the number of tourists visiting Singapore every year is more than 4 million, although Singapore is small country.

You forgot one more p to add!
The correct word is : stripper biggrin

Stripper = a performer who takes his or her clothes off in a sexuality exciting way in front of an audience

I think you're totaly wrong. What are western tourist looking for? They are looking for authenticity, for something different from what they know and from their life...
As a tourist, i prefer clearly see lao women wearing traditional sin (because for me it's something new and very special) rather than seeing a group of pop singer that look like what i have in my country.

No need to pay 1000$ of plane ticket, spend one full day in the plane to see just the same thing as i can see in my country!!!! absoloutly stupid!

Yes, it could be wrong. People could have a different taste or choice. Don't be so conservative and be so sure. The right answer is depending on custumers.
For you may be like that, for another customer may be another thing. As far as know westerners always Laos is too silent or sleeping country.

So for you, just forget and destroy the culture and identity of your country is a good thing if it can just attract more tourists? Are you sure "selling" your country this way is the best future for Laos?

You are ready to change everything just to please more tourists? but what about people who like Laos as it is (lao people and foreigners), the only ones who really respect this country?

I'm not so conservative (for sure, i'm little bit conservative just because I love many things in Laos that i wouldn't like to see disapearing). For me, many things can be improved and developed in Laos... but no need to destroy all the beauty of this country just to "follow others"
- Laos can become a leader in ecologic energy (with hydroelectrics and solar), and with this get money to develop better hospitals and better schools...that would really improve life for lao people. Laos can also build more road or railway to make people and goods travelling more easily and cheaper (so imported products can be cheaper and exported products more competitive). This is real and sustainable developement.
- But Laos can also benefits from developing it's cultural life: traditional lao culture is very very rich, and can attract many tourists (and their money)... as long as you preserve it while "developing" your country. When someone say "Laos is poor", i say : "Laos is not really poor: it's poor in money, but very rich in culture". Traditional culture can also evolve (like modern clothes using traditional lao silks), but this evolution should always be respectfull of the spirit of the country.... just copy other countries is non-value because in this domain, value comes from specificity. Promote and Sell traditional products all over the world can also be a way to get money. But replacing traditional dances by modern sexy pop groups "western style" (who get more success from their miniskirts than from their artistics skills) is according to me certainly not the best way to value and develop lao culture.
Same for clothes: Do you think a foreign woman will buy a lao made dress if she can get the same 'made in china' or 'made in thailand' for lower price? certainly not. Do you think she will pay for a very beautifull-very specific dress using wonderfull lao silks, with a part of lao style (but maybe adapted to foreign taste)? certainly yes, because it's unic! No other country in the world can do this, so it's interesting.

I want Laos to develop, but develop without loosing it's spirit... that's vey important. In french we say "ne vends pas ton ame au diable" "don't sell your soul to the evil"!

hey! maybe we could open a new street in Vientiane: a street with many many prostitutes as in Bangkok!!! good idea, it could attract many many tourists!!!!!!
i'm kidding.... of course i don't wish this at all for Laos, and i hope not any Lao people wish this for his country!
this is just an "extreme exemple" to explain what i would not like Laos to become.

There are many many thing in "developed countries" that look good at first view but are in fact not soo good when you really analyse them or live with it every day... I just hope Laos won't copy this while developing itself.

for sure... i would just say "often", not "always"...

But those people just don't understand your country, are unable to appreciate it for what it really is! Laos is just not made for them. As you said, people have different tastes.
Why would you like to please them? just to get their money? You are ready to change your country just to get money from someone who is unable to understand and appreciate your country as it's really is?

I think you should better try to improve your country to attract more people who really appreciate your country, who understand it and have it  in their heart. When life will be more comfortable and safe in Laos, maybe i'll go to live in Laos (with my lao wife, who came in France to live with me), and invest a part of my money in a business that would be respectfull of lao culture and identity, and probably give some job to locals... I would be proud and very happy to do it.  But i would do it only if Laos would have been able to preserve it's soul while developing. I think attracting people like this would benefit much more to Laos than just tourist who come, spend a few money, go back and never come back. Don't you think?

Having just Singers doesn't mean that Lao people will not develop their own cultures or sell our country . That would never happend.
I myself really apprecite their ability, their idea creating such performance. This proved that our young genarations can go inter. They are not too bad compare with other nations. Don't be too serious.

New genaration

I wish you're right... but i'm very affraid that little by little young lao get interested only in this kind of show and don't care any more about lao specific culture... and so turn little by little their country into a country that would not have any more difference or specificity with other modern countries (same good things, but also same problems... don't minimise the problems that people have in modern countries... life is not so easy, everywhere)

If this kind of show is just "someting more" and if some people like.... why not (hehe... how a man can dislike this?.. those girls are gorgeous :P ) ... but if it replace little by little traditional cultural life, it would be a disaster... cultural disaster.

HI,,i'm very glad to know that there is not only me who concern about young people in laos..in fact these girls are very talents, but to show off this way make them look too cheap. i agree that i like to see hot chics, but just see ,thats all...refer to the comment that comparing laos and singapore, you should think how far has singaore go? economy, education, and the poeple.but for laos,we still a developing country, if we dont improve our people, how can we just run after other countries who have different background.

Thanks for video clips. Having watched this video, I feel that nothing need to be concerned. It's just normal rock or hard rock which is one option that our young genaration can enjoy. This kind of music is also useful for people who want to exercise or what is called aerobic for healthier life style.
One should know that we cannot force each other when it comes to the feeling or taste of people, especially when Laos opens country to the world. If Lao singers do not it, our young people also will enjoy other nations' music such Thai, Vietnam, Chinese, Japanese, Korean or even American. It doesn't mean that they would do what you want. Otherwise, you need to close your country like before 1990. Don't let them turn on Thai TV or TV set, though which they can see around the word. Don't let them turn on even Thai radio. But then, it is not a good way to do. The more you forbid the they want to do that is a nature of young people. Why not let them do so that they can show with Lao style which exclusion of the bad thing from the abraod.

Regards,

It's quite interesting comparison. It really makes me want to share my thought. First, I really like the saying of Mr. Lee Kuan Yew who said: "Singaporean will make Singapore good as much as Washington, London or Paris. What the good things they have Singapore should have". I think he means that Singapore should be the best country in the world which has a good rule of law, has a friendly environment for the people to live and to business, where anywhere is clean; where the security is perfect, where the education is in world standard and so on. Yes, the person who earlier quoted this saying, he might want to say if our country has a good and friendly environment to people such as keeping city clean, good security and so on, as well as good songs, people or tourists may want to come to our country much more than we have now.
Second, someone, especially who stays abroad, may not know that in Laos there are 3 types of songs: Sting, folk and lum. The songs which "the Princess" sing are referring to sting songs. Admittedly, nowadays our young people are proud to sing Lao song, unlike last time before 1990. At that time there was almost no sting song. Last time they liked to sing Thai or English or Lao old song instead of Lao song. But now the situation is changing otherwise. In fact, this kind of song is born not today, but about 15 years ago. I am really thankful to our Lao government policy which opens a good opportunity for our young people to perform themselves. Also, there is not only one the "Princess" in Laos, there is lots sing sting songs. Besides this type of song, other types are also developed. People may know the singer whose name is Alexandra Thidavanh. She sings sting, folk and variety of lum (traditional song). Talking about the clothes, which they never wear at home or in society, that singers used when they perform. Of course, it should be suitable with the type of song. But it does not mean they will forget our Lao culture like sinh. It is just for performance. I think it like movie star who acted according to the content of story.
Yes, I really agree with person who said that one should understand that we cannot force each other when it comes to the feeling or taste of people, especially when we open our country, otherwise it would make them like they are in the hell. They cannot do what they want, cannot sing what they like. Sorry with my great respect, I cannot agree with the French person, who comes to Laos for a while and go back to France and listen the nice French songs in France, claiming we will sell our country. That would have never happened. As someone mentioned earlier having such singers doesn't mean Lao people will not develop our cultures, instead otherwise.
Now young Lao people are proud to sing Lao songs. When they meet with their international counterparts they can perform very well with no shame. They show our Lao folk and Lao sting songs with Lao style and probably with including the best thing from the west. Their counterparts also can enjoy and like Lao songs.

I appreciate your comment, very clever and balanced...

About clothes that make the girls so sexy.... i just wonder : do their success come from their real singing skills or from their sexy clothes that make people interested in their show?

In this second case, i definitly cannot approve what they do.
They are really very very sexy.... even in France i think we don't have so sexy and hot singers group!!!! No need to dress like gogo-bar girls, whatever is the style of your music!

By the way, you' re right : it's a very good thing to see young laotian singing in lao language, whatever the style of their song.... and especialy if a few years before, they just sang in english or thai.

Mr. Paris_Vientiane

Yes, to some extend sexy clothes could play a big role to attract their audience. I myself have never seen their show. Probably, my daughter had seen already. Actually, when I saw the photos posting in this topic, I aslo felt as though they go too fast or in short, nothing different with how you felt. I do not know how these photos related to their show. To be honest, if my daughter wears in society like this, I would shock to die. Anyway, I presume these photos are just for show for their audience.
But then when compared them with neighbouring countries singers, I think their clothes seemed to me normal, especially the real show in the video clip. Have you watched the video clip?
It could be the case, in our region these kinds of clothes are prefered when you perform in front of audience. Have you seen the Japanese or Korean singers' performances?
Yes, I do agree with you that in Euroupean region this kind of thing cannot be seen. I also do watch concerts  from TV set from your side and once I had ever studied in Ukraine.

Sabaidee all

I think it's quite normal that Lao leaders and Lao government in the past were strick and had fear about young lao generation following the western influences and lost Lao's identity, cultures, and traditional values. That's a good thing which any leaders will always carefully have their mind on those things.

If you recall in USA back in the 50 (1950.....) american government did not allowed Rock and Roll, playing in the public or radio...american government also had fears, that american sociery will change, because of the sort of music....but after that they allowed Rock and Roll to play in mainstream media.

So the same in Lao in the past we only heard songs in traditional lao song 'Lam Vong' style but now we hear band like Apact Log Cell Awake Over dance etc...
that's show that Lao government already relaxed, allowed these things to be on. It's quite normal that Lao government was afraid these sort of things change lao society lao way of life.....the best thing for young lao generation is that they should know who and what they are.....that IDENTITY of a people a country....when you loose that you become a sort you are nobody.....you do not know who and what you are. Keep in that in mind and I think lao youngsters will be fine.

you don't even need to know how to sing these days. it can all be fixed in the studio. and these girls are definitely lip-syncing which means they aren't really singing and it's just a cd playing the backround. that's what a lot of the artists do in Laos and Thailand and in american standards we wouldn't accept that. just like ashley simpson! haha but anyway, these girls are definitely copying western culture. there is nothing lao about this music or dance. they are trying to please the younger generation who has become corrupted by watching too many hollywood movies and thai tv. but i guess it's kind of inevitable which means it's hard to avoid and it will happen eventually. the best thing to do is encourage the younger generation to study the traditional lao culture and music and maybe some kids will like it and continue the tradition so it isn't lost.

that is so true. these days, the recording studio will do all the "singing" for a lot of artists. but i dont really find anything absolutely objectionable with these girls. they're not bad looking either.

i will ask what the point of selling for the group?
what does the singer should pround on their job?
voice? songs? clothes? or sexy body?or face?
for marketing is really need a lot of technique
to sell  including wear bit, but make more sexy.
do they want to be a famous singer song group who can sing well or
who just have sexy performance?
as a profesianal on field, could they  pround on their main duty yet?
