(KPL) Vientiane province is reported to have 23 people infected with HIV. The victims have been detected in the blood test of 855 people in this central province.
According to a meeting to evaluate the health education on anti-aids activities held last week in the province, Vientiane province has had 9 deaths of AIDS so far. The meeting was attended by the Provincial Anti-Aids Committee’s Secretariat of Vientiane, Dr Souvanpheng.
In recent years, the committee has paid attention to the health education of locals in 590 villages across the province, especially in crowded communities and among groups of high risk to HIV infection in order to raise their awareness on the danger of HIV/AIDS and their prevention behaviors, said Dr Souvanpheng. “In our plan, the committee will continue its health education by applying diverse techniques for people in both rural and urban areas,” continued Dr Souvanpheng. The techniques will include the distribution of brochures, posters, and the installation of information boards in 75 villages and communities, as well as the cooperation with media sectors such as radios, televisions, and newspapers, Dr Souvanpheng was quoted as saying. “The disease is severe and incurable so prevention is the best way we can do now,” added Dr Souvanpheng.
