miss thailand world are human, human can make mistakes but making mistake by offending other national intentionally is not acceptable... these girls have good educational standard
but educated people never look down others who have different cultures, different languages, different point of views...miss thailand world are beautiful ladies and we`d liked their brain and soul be as beautiful as their bodies...

Thanks for your information. In fact, this article is not surprising us much at all. We all know that there is a dicremination of most Thai people, if not 99%, to Lao people in Thai society. The Thai people get used to look down Thai northeast people who are also Lao race, who live in northeast part of Thailand, which not so long was a part of Laos. The Thai people look down the Esan people not only how they speak, but how they live, how they eat and including their culture, which is similar to our tradition and culture. That's why the Thai people like to look Laotian too. I don't know this article is posted in correct place or not, but what I can say is that it would make Lao people hate Thai people more and more. Instead, it would be better if this article was posted for Thai people read so that they can be educated civilized people. Actually, I really feel sorry for people in Esan part of Thailand who are looked down and have less opportunities compared with Thai people, they are second sort of Thai citizen.

I also would like to add to above mentioned opinion about Thai people. In fact, the Thai people do not look down only Lao or Thai esan people, but also look down Thai Lanna people who live in the north and Thai muslim people who live in the southern part of Thailand. That's why there is a war, the war for independent of their province.

I wouldn't say 99% of them, saying that isn't any better than what they are saying about us.

But on the plus side, the Lao people in the U.S. are way better off than the Thai people here.

Oh! last time one of my friend gave advice to me to speak in English when I go to Bangkok. Unfortunately, I failed to ask him what is the reason behind. Then, I only suspected that they may not understand our Lao language or I may not be able to speak Thai properly. If according to this article, he might want to tell me that some Thai people may look me down if I speak in Lao language with them. It could be the case.

They shouldn't look down on the Lao people. The Thai has sold their culture to the western world. Muay "Thai", the various beaches in the south. They really have nothing that seperates them from the rest of SE Asia besides their economy, and thats the result of foreign investment.

Yes, I really agree with this statement. Most Thai people,especially educated people, businessmen and some ordinary people, from my experiences, are kindly and friendly to Lao people.

Why some thai not all I hope look down on lao language, I can't see much different between thai language or lao, just like italian and spanish or maybe these thai did not have a clue about italian and spanish.
Another thing here i want to point out is that ee sarn provinces should become lao provinces because of the simalar cultures and language.

Thai Esan was belong to Laotian way back when Chao Anouvong was a king.

The conflict between ViengChan and Siam is not merely Lao vs Siamese, (the Siamese name is derived from the old Mon/Khmer Land Jenla)Remember Loungphabang was against the ViengChan King and the Lord(king)of Xieng Kwaun was the one that handed Anou to the Siamese. Both these old Lanxang kingdoms made this conflict a Lao vs. Lao also. The blood ties to the ViengChan King is not dead, there are members of the family that reside in Thailand and other parts of the world, not all the Sons daughters grandsons and granddaughters of Anou were even arrested and surely not killed. Even members of the Siam court took the relatives of the Lao King and had children with them. Avouvong 4 wives, and his 3 sons were brought to Bangkok, they together had 25 sons and several daughters. Many of which resettled in the Isaan Region and parts of ViengChan and Champaske. In two hundred years, their numbers may number in the thousands who are descendants of Anouvong.

Even So, the Royal Court of Loungphabang are also the same bloodline of his Anouvong.

A little more info on this-- not that this could be really understood with a "little" info.

After Chao ("King") Anou's failed rebellion-- brought on by punitive taxes with no services or military protection in kind, utilizing the armies of vassal states in constant wars, and the tattooing of all people under the umbrella of the kingdom as being "property" of the Siamese king-- Siamese armies marched on Vientiane and erased the city from the face of the earth. They captured as many Lao as they could and settled most of them on the Bolaven Plateau, i.e. what is now NE Thailand and had been very sparsely populated due to its crappy conditions, as well as taking many to areas around Bangkok where they were used for slave labor. The great canals around Bangkok were partially built using captured Lao, and many people to this day say that one can hear the cries of Lao ghosts who are still suffering there.

To make a long story short, the hatred of Siamese runs deep in many Lao people, not only for historical wrongs, but because of their treatment by the Siamese Thai until today. Thailand has made great inroads in its treatment of ethnic minorities, and the Lao descendants-- called "Issan" or "Esan" or God knows how many Anglicized spellings, meaning "Northeast"-- have become a very organized political bloc in the past generation, demanding equal rights and access to equal treatment under the Thai system.

That having been said, the Thai abhor Chao Anou as a "rebel" who turned against the Siamese king he had sworn loyalty to-- and you know how the Thais love their king.

This is where the suspicion by many Lao and Issan Thai that Mr. McRowan was killed by Thai interests-- whether a private individual or someone in the government-- came from. Chao Anou is persona non grata in Thailand for what he represents.

The Lao generally see Chao Anou as a tragic figure who selflessly sacrificed his life to free his people. His failure to actually do so was due to the inability of the Lao kingdoms (and specifically their leaders) to unite for the good of their people.

There's more to it than this, of course, much more, but that's sort of the half-hearted Reader's Digest version.

Someone please translate what are they saying? Of course I am not suprise by it 99.9% of our people already know these idiots have a brain of a size of a grape, if I were a Thai media I would shut their mouth up like there's no tomorrow. How can these people (Thai media) let these kind of things get through the crack is beyond me? If this were to happened in USA about racist comments by celeb they wouldn't have a place to hide.

What can I say about Thai celeb they're all narrow-minded people and their media/promoter let these kind of thing goes unnoticed. Their media/promoter should have educate these people about being a role model for young Thai kids, by saying the right things, not to offense anyone instead they let them saying whatever they want. The educated people don't say these kind of things when you said something to offend someone it hard to let go by someone that got offended, we (lao people) will never forget you can say whatever you want someday it will be a payback.

Oh I see you were around for these historical wrongs and it has greatly affected you.

The Thai-Siamese people have no right to downplay the Lao language and people, but that doesn't give us the right to do the same. No one has translated this article into English, and I can't read Thai (why is there so many silent letters?) so I won't bother.

Hello all

I do not want to get into the bad and low side of thai people, I always hope not all thai behave like trash, but because I live in Australia and see many ADULT website and about thai sex websites are terrible, they are like slaves to westerners, the above person mentioned about thai seeing farang like god is true, of course not all but those kind of people.
That's why australian's survey about tourism Thailand is the favourite country to go because when australians are in Thailand they are treated like important, high class or even god that's why they like it. For other asean countries australians are treated the same, they are not higher than natives that's why are not in the best list of australians. For me we are all equal, any race, black,yellow,white the same. I don't see a westerner above me at all.

So if a good friend of you, he or she will never insult or look down on you, even you do not do well in your life, good friends will try to help. I live in Australia, I have friends like anybody else , I have job my friend did not have one, I do not insult him because he is unemployed but I will try to help him to get a job....that's the meaning of good friends.

CAMARADES even better, forget about people criticise or insult about Socialism and Lao is a socialism conuntry, but let me tell you even AUSTRALIA considered socialism way when the country was in DEPRESSION. People were hungry and no job and queue up for supper that the depression time back there.
Yesterday I saw one american man recorded some event in Africa and was on the news in SBS australian tv, made me think about the meanning of UNITE we LIVE, DIVIDE we Die....it showed a buffalo was attacked by lions and 1 crocodile, lions are regarded as a king in Africa, but all the buffalos come back and a kind of united, the buffalos surrounded the 3 lions and start to fight back, the lions are shocked and because of that the buffalos are able to help the young buffalo, not eating by the crocodile or the lions, when you are unite, you are strong, NO DOUBT.

I believe that now LAO is an independent country whatever way lao people chose to go, and therefore lao around the world feel the same way. You are not a slave race, or you sit and do nothing when people threw lot of trashes as you, no that time passed, but we tell them, we are going to say something back to correct your wrong comments, or bad broadcast about lao people.

Of course Asean countries particularly LAO still regarded as poor country, but that does not mean we are LESS HUMAN than anybody else. If you are rich, you eat the whole chicken, I am not rich I eat a piece of chicken and vegetables that's fine for me.

Rich countries have its own problems as the poor one, on the surface you have hip of material things but deep down you are in some sort of debt to the bank due to your LOAN, borrow money to buy house, car etc....Poor countries do not have that kind of debt, so easy life in a way. Sometime people think that because LAO is a Socialist country that's why some countries looked down on Lao people, but look at East Timor, that country went down the path of many parties like in Western countries but look carefully they have problems, East Timor people not united, All parties wanted to be on the top job, leaders of those parties, all wanted to be Priminister or President, they fight among themselve from inside the Parliarment to th streets, the country became like TRIBES, my places your places, you can not cross to my place otherwise mean war....is on the news. Something made us think about it.

Unite people of any country is very important. The future is look good for country which can unite all citizens of the country, no matter problems the country is faced but at the end we can solve them, for a better future for all.

จากที่ได้ชมรายการตีสิบเมื่อคืนวันอังคาร ที่ 24 กค. 50 ช่วงที่มีการสัมภาษณ์ผู้เข้าประกวด มิสไทยแลนด์เวิลด์ 2007 ที่ได้ไปเก็บตัวอยู่ที่ประเทศลาวนั้น สิ่งที่ผู้เข้าประกวดคนหนึ่งได้พูดเกี่ยวกับประเทศลาวนั้น มีหลายๆอย่างที่มิได้เป็นความจริงแต่อย่างใดเช่นคำว่า

1. "ผ้าเย็น คือ ผ้าอนามัย" ไม่มีคนลาวคนไหนเคยพูดเลย เค้าก็เรียกเหมือนคนไทยนั่นแหละ หรือไม่ก็เรียกเป็นภาษาฝรั่งเศษไปเลย

2. ไฟสัญญาณจราจรที่ผู้เข้าประกวดพูดว่า ไฟเหลืองคือ ไฟ "เกรียม" นั้นไม่มีในภาษาลาวอย่างแน่นอน สำหรับการอธิบายไฟสัญญาณจราจรที่ว่า ไฟแดงเป็นไฟอำนาจ หรือ ไฟเขียวเป็นไฟอิสระ นั้นก็เป็นแค่การอธิบายในกฎจราจรเท่านั้น ไม่มีใครมาพูดในชีวิตประจำวัน ส่วนคำที่ถูกต้องคือ "เกียม" หรือ "เตียม" และ ไม่ได้ใช้พูดเรียก ไฟเหลืองอย่างแน่นอน

คนลาวมากกว่า 90% สามารถฟังภาษาไทยเข้าใจอย่างถ่องแท้ กรุณาคำนึงถึงสิ่งที่จะกระทบถึงความรู้สึกของคนฟังด้วย เพราะไม่ใช่แค่ความรู้สึกส่วนตัวของแต่ละบุคคลเท่านั้น แต่ยังรวมถึงความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างประเทศที่มีมาอย่างยาวนานด้วย อย่าให้มาหยุดชะงักลงเพียงเพราะความรู้เท่าไม่ถึงการของคนกลุ่มหนึ่งเท่านั้น

ถ้าอยากพูดถึงสิ่งใดสิ่งหนึ่ง ประเทศใดประเทศหนึ่งนั้น ควรศึกษาข้อมูลของประเทศนั้นๆ อย่างถ่องแท้เสียก่อน เพราะไม่ว่าใครก็รักประเทศของตนทั้งนั้นไม่ต้องการให้ใครมาดูถูก

ถ้าคนอื่นล้อเลียนภาษาไทยเช่นนี้พวกคุณก็คงจะไม่ชอบเหมือนกัน รู้จักเอาใจเขามาใส่ใจเราบ้าง เพราะมันเป็นการละเมิดสิทธิมนุษยชนอย่างหนึ่ง

๑. ทบทวนบทบาทสื่อมวลชนของตนเองในการนำเสนอรายการที่ขาดมุมมองที่ละเอียดอ่อนทางวัฒนธรรม
๒. ตระหนักถึงประเด็นทางวัฒนธรรมอย่างจริงใจ ซึ่งในที่นี่ไม่ใช่การออกมาขอโทษแล้วไม่ได้พยายามแก้ไขอย่างจริงจัง
๓. ต้องมีความรู้จริงในการเสนอแนะมุมมองในแต่ละด้าน
๔. เปิดมุมมองในการมองตัวเองและคนอื่นในฐานะมนุษย์ที่มีความแตกต่างทางวัฒนธรรม ไม่ได้มองแค่วัฒนธรรมของตนเลอเลิศอยู่คนเดียว ความแตกต่างทางวัฒนธรรมไม่ได้บอกถึงความเหนือกว่า หรือด้อยค่ากว่ากัน

และในกรณีของผู้ประกวดคนนี้แม้ว่าคุณจะไปเยือนประเทศลาวในฐานะแขกแต่ไม่ได้หมายความว่าการเป็นแขกของคุณจะเป็นการสร้างความชอบธรรมทางวัฒนธรรมที่คุณจะเข้าไปเดินเล่นในห้องนอนของเจ้าบ้าน หรือว่าจะติติงบ้านเขาและเอามาพูอย่างสนุกปากได้ มารยาทของคนที่เป็นคนจริงแท้นั้นอยู่ที่ไม่ดูถูกผู้อื่นแม้ว่าผู้อื่นนั้นจะเป็นผู้มีวัฒนธรรมแตกต่างจากเรา

I translate the thai comment quickly and short.....The red line said ' those beautiful thai girls are beautiful but have no Brain' and the author stated, he wanted to say sorry for all Lao who felt offended by those rubbish comments.

At the end he said lao people or thai people, just human sharing this planet ( this world ).
In the future LAO should have beauty queens from Camarade countries, Russia, China, Vietnam because lao people will have less issues and problems with these camarades. biggrin

Actually, I really want to thank the person who translated the message from Thai into English so that people who cannot read Thai would be able to understand the meaning of that message. However, it seems to me, as well as people who understand Thai, accurate only for the first part, but not for the last part. There is a bias in the last part. There is no saying about Russia, China and Vietnam at all in that message. I think it would be unfair for this Thai person who sincerely wants to say sorry on behave of all Thai people for what the girls said not so in appropriate way, if I do not make it clear.
The Thai gentleman, who wrote the message, accepted that in Thailand there are only few people that look down Lao people and Thai Esan as well. However, most Thai people are proud and delighted to have a good relationship with Lao people, as we have a similar tradition, culture, language and many other things. In addition, he suggested :"Let keep our good relation going on as we Thai and Laotian are like relative since long time ago.

I have watched the candidate of Miss Thailand Universe 2007 shared their experience from their activities in Laos at TV program call AT TEN last Tuesday 24th 2007. From what I have heard, there was one candidate who said something totally untrue about Lao language for examples:

1. "Refreshing towel" in Lao language they call "Tampon" (a piece of cotton material that a woman puts inside her vagina to absorb blood during her period)

2. Traffic light such as "yellow light", in Lao language they call "burning light"

3. To show respect some one, in lao language they call " bend your butt"

These are all untrue about Lao language and very inappropriate for this candidate to use Lao language as a mean to make it fun in the TV program becuase Lao people may feel unhappy and these things used to be problems about Lao and Thai media for many times ago, don't you ever take this into consideration?

I want to deliver my messages to candidate of Miss Thailand Universe 2007 that the way you look down on other country's language is what you call "the real beauty that miss thailand universe"? You should think before saying something, because it is showed something about your background. Have you ever heard the proverb "language tells your nations, manner tell your parentage " If you don't know, just keep your mouth closed.

Thanks web master and everyone for taking your time to translating this article. First I have no clue what the article is about. Now, I am completely understood. Well, at least not all Thai people agree with their joke.

I am really suprised that they even said that on National TV. Wow, I didn't grow up or live in Laos, but I'm sure Lao people wouldn't never use those kind of words to name something. Those people just make themselves look stupid and dumb. I don't get it what are they trying to promoting, their looks or their intelligent? As far as intelligent, they have none. And for looks, they just like every typical girls around the street.

What did you mean mate, about these terms, what and which one? Anyway I try again ok. someone above sawadee ka must be a female so she did some translation and here they are

Refreshing towel she said lao called it tampon in lao now is PA A NAR MAY MAE JING JUD SAI HEE pardon me I must do as the thai woman did translate this phrase so there is no Misleading.
But for me refreshing towed we lao call it FAR ZEN as I know.
2-To Show respect to someone, not to show respect some one like she wrote so she did not fully understood how to use english, she forgot the PREPOSITION TO and the word SOMEONE is one word not some and then one, anyway in LAO to show respect to someone or the public we will say SARDEANG KOUARM NUB TU TO TARN XAI OR JING not Bend your butt as she did say.....the word butt is a kind of american word for ass.
3- Yellow light is Pai luong as we know not burning light which means pai may, burning is may.
