(KPL) The Lao government has recently granted the Booyoung Co, Ltd from the Republic of Korea to develop a 27-hole golf course for the 2009 SEA Games, which will be hosted by Laos.
The course which is expected to be completed by May 2009, is located on a 300-ha site at KM 18 in Saythany district, Vientiane Capital.
The US$ 12 million project was signed at a ceremony held on 31 July at the Lao Plaza Hotel, Vientiane, between Mr Soulivong Dalavong, President of the Committee for Planning and Investment, on behalf of the Lao Government and Mr Lee Joong Keun, Chairman of the Booyoung Co., Ltd.
The agreement was also signed by the President of the Lao National Sports Committee, Dr. Phouthong Seng-akhom, the Vice-Mayor of Vientiane, Mr. Bounchanh Sinthavong.
The ceremony was witnessed by the Standing Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Somsavat Lengsavad. The stadium will be used for football and track-and-field events and it will be also used for the opening and closing ceremonies of the games.
This is the first investment in Laos for the Booyoung Co., Ltd. So far the company has donated more than US$ 5 million to develop the education for poor people in remote rural areas of Laos .
