Japan grants for dormitory building of Vientiane Vocational Training Centre
Dormitory in Champasak province, Laos
(KPL) The Government of Japan yesterday approved of US$ 160,000 for the construction of a dormitory for the Vientiane Capital Vocational Training Centre. The Government of Japan has decided to provide the International Co-operation NGO IV-JAPAN, a Japanese NGO working in Laos, with grant aid of US$160,820 for a project of the construction of a dormitory for the Vientiane Capital Vocational Training Centreā under the Grant Assistance Scheme for Japanese NODs Project.
The grant agreement was signed on June 4, 2007 at the Embassy of Japan in the Lao PDR, Vientiane Capital, between Ms. Sachiko Tominaga, representative of IV-JAPAN, and Mr. Makoto Katsura, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Lao PDR.
The support will be for the construction of a dormitory for trainees of the Training Centre which is located in the Department of Education, Vientiane Capital.
This Training Centre has been actively providing various types of training, such as hair dressing, cooking, sewing, woodworks and so on, to people in and out of the Capital. It is, however, difficult for trainees from the provinces to cover the accommodation costs, thus putting a constraint to participants from outside Vientiane Capital.
Therefore, this project will provide a wider opportunity for people in remote areas to get access to training, and contribute to improving and developing the environment of vocational training in the Lao P.D.R.
