SINGAPORE, Jan 15 (Bernama) -- Singapore trounced minnows Laos 11-0 in their Group B match of the Asean Football Championship 2007 at the National Stadium, here Monday.
The victory put Singapore on top of the group with four points from one win and a draw; followed by Indonesia with identical points but with lesser goal margin. Vietnam are in third position with two points from two draws. Laos have yet to taste either a victory or a draw.
Singapore, the defending champions, were clearly the more organised side at the start of the game and it did not take them long to find the net.
They first blasted three goals in the first half and then a mind-boggling eight in the second.
Hotshot striker Mohd Noh Alam Shah himself scored seven goals in the 10th, 24th, 61st, 72nd, 76th, 88th and another in the 92nd.
The other goals came from Muhd Ridhuan Muhd (9th), Mohd Shahril Ishak (47th), Khairul Amri Kamal (71st) and Itmi Dickson Edheree (78th).
Singapore opened the floodgate in the 10th minute through Muhd Ridhuan who on receiving a cross, unleashed a powerful shot which Laotian goalkeeper Sengphachan Bounthisanh failed to catch properly.
It bounced into play and Muhd Ridhuan was quick to follow up and put Singapore one up.
A minute later, Mohd Noh received a pass from inside the box and headed the ball over an onrushing Sengphachan. The ball dipped into the net for Singapore's second goal.
The third goal came after Shi Jia Yi received a pass near the right post of Laos' goalmouth and headed the ball across for Mohd Noh Alam to tap into the net. The rest, as the saying goes, is history.
Laos did try to organise attacks but found Singapore's defence impregnable.
After letting in three goals, Sengpachan was replaced by Phoutpasong but the substitution failed to stop the hungry Lions who kept on scoring goals as though at will.
But Singapore's real test would come in their match against Indonesia on Wednesday while Laos would be up against Vietnam.
What ????....It's unbelieveable...The coach had given an interview earlier and said the team had not much time to prepare for the tournament. Then, I thought they'd rather stayed home...It's embarrassing to lose and conceded that many goals.
As far as I can remember, there has never been a Laos National Team (youth or adult) to concede that many goals in a match...The coach and the players need to apologize to Lao football fans and the nation... And all of them should resign immediately...
I have confidence that young Lao National Football teams (adult or young) can bring back the pride to our nation. They have done that in the past...I remember during my younger age when Laos team came from 3-1 defecit in Thailand King's Cup Tournament, and won the match 4-3 against Thailand...The whole nation celebrated for many days...
To members of Lao National Football Team: Let's forget about that defeat, and move forward..and learn about the mistakes...You can do it !!!...whether you eat "khao Nioew" or "khao Chao",..it doesn't matter...
Lao football team need to work harder , in sport there are winners and loosers your team might not win now but it will next time? I never know any teams that has never lose? The point is no matter how good other team think they are than the Lao, do not under estimate the under dog because they might come back and laugh at you louder than you are laughing at the Lao team now. Go Lao team .....
