Discovery 5 rear pads completely shot at 40k km, is that normal or do I drive like a maniac

Noticed a faint squeak from the back of the Disco last week when reversing out of my villa in Arabian Ranches and my initial thought was just some sand stuck in the shield because you know Dubai life but I had my local garage take a quick peek while they were doing an oil change and apparently the rear pads are down to nothing while the fronts still have plenty of meat left which seems completely backwards to me because shouldn't the front be doing most of the work, the guy said it's actually pretty common on these new Discos because of the electronic brake distribution and the stability control constantly dragging the rears to keep that big boxy thing from leaning like a ship in a storm but I'm still a bit skeptical that a set of pads only lasted forty thousand clicks. I'm trying to track down Land Rover brake pad replacement professionals who won't just throw the most expensive OEM pads at it and call it a day because I'm curious if there's a better compound for the rear that lasts a bit longer in stop start traffic without sacrificing the initial bite when you actually need to haul this thing down from highway speeds, and I also need someone who's not going to look at me like I've grown a second head when I ask them to check the wear sensor calibration because the warning light hasn't even come on yet which makes me think the previous owner might have had it coded out or something dodgy like that.
