Laos has the choice to shut the door to the world community like in 1975 to 1990 and refuses the foreign investors specially the western investors to come and invest and continue living in the poverty like the bad old day and about 1000 years behind time. That is the way Lao people would like to be the least development country and the poorest country that is up to the Lao people destination .
Maybe Laos prefers to depend on her allies such as Vietnam and China and no body else instead standing with her own feet and starting to trade with the world.
Laos is better off being a Republic Governing country. Also when did Thailand became#1 investor in Laos??? The last time I heard it was China and Vietnam leading ahead of Thailand. I'm quite sure the next generation we will see China leading ahead after Vietnam.

Thailand used to be number 1 investor in Laos and lost the rank #1 to China since the coup 2006.

One party state government is good like China and Singapore but not too good like North Korea , Cuba and Syria because the development is too slow which the same corrupted regime have been ruled the country for many decades with very little progress. Even the country is rich with oil like Libya with the income hundred of billion dollars per year but the people have very little benefit. Only the dictator and his regime are rich and have the good living.
Corruption in China is death penalty that is the reason why China is good . Singapore, the people have the right to vote for their leader that is why Singapore is good unlike north Korea , Cuba and Syria that are no good with one corrupted republic government who have been ruled for many decades with the least devopment .

If Laos does become "Republic of Laos" There should be rule to how long they can stay and how much progress they have made during there years in terms. I mean in a short year like 4 years in terms, but can re-elect for another 2 years max if considered. Now a days many country leadership don't stay for a long time in office. Many goes along with terms. After a person is in office. They should immediatly start working on major issue and must keep doing it until their terms is over or until the next election from the Lao people vote.
Laos needs active and smart leadership to run Laos if they are to progress faster and smarter in the future for the people. We have to remember that it is the Lao people who's making new flavor and glory to our country.

All I have been observing the system failed and succeed for example such as North Korea and Cuba one party state and the same corrupted regime have been ruled the countries for many decades and nothing good . The people are starving to death by million in north Korea . Also Singapore has nothing compare to Laos and also one party state but Singapore leader and government are elected by the Singapore .Then have a look at south Korea which the government is elected by the people , South Korea is the most modern country with hi- tech and economical success. Any government is not elected by the people could never be successful . The same old corrupted regime who have been ruling the country for over 3 decades with little progress and the least development.

I do agree with you in some point of view. But then again Laos isn't any of those Country you mention on you're arguement. You have to see what kind of Government is comfortable for the Lao people.
Also what kind of Government do you want to see for the Lao people and Laos? If may I asked you?

That is up to the Lao people to make their own destiny . I am Thai but my father is Lao from Vientiane and he fled Laos since 1975 and turn his back from the violent and looking for a better life specially freedom and he has been living in Thailand for 35 years.
The only good foreign policy for Laos is Independency!
Why have kick french back home if the result is now to be under influence of other countries like China, Vietnam, or Thailand? All those neightbour countries are investing or offering strong financial help not just because they are kind and nice neightbourg, but because they expect in return Laos to serve their interests. The only interests Laos should serve are the ones of Lao population, and this require independancy and freedom! Autonomy is the key, evzen if the cost to pay is a little bit slower development!
The day that Laos is no longer taking the advice or depending on the handling out from Vietnam and China . That will be the day Laos become dependent and the development will be much faster .

According to the experience in the last 10 years which Thai prime minister and his administration are good for neighbouring countries specially Laos ? Which Thai prime minister Abhisit or Thaksin projects and investment more money in Laos ? Will Thaksin sister continue to invest in Laos as her brother ( Thaksin ) promise to do ? Thailand is still number #1 foreign investor in Laos believe it or not. It seems like a lot of Lao still don't like but Lao still need their money and almost every product still use their Thai product including food and medicine and vaccines.
Thaksin invested more monies in Laos than Abhisit. When Thaksin was prime minister Thailand was the number one investor in Laos. Now China but Thailand is still number 2 investors in Laos. Almost every product are made in Thailand import in Laos including food , medicine and vaccines but some Lao people still hate Thai unlike China invested in Laos than immigrant hundred of thousand of Han Chinese to settle in Laos and Chinese companies invest in Laos and Chinese companies don't hire the local Laotian ,every Chinese Casinos don't hire Laotian so do Vietnam companies such as robber plantations ,the Vietnamese don;t hire Laotian. There are plenty's of joined in Laos but not for Laos . So Laotian must crossed the Mekong river and look for jobs in Thailand and hate Thai people as you could see the post. Thaksin is business person.

I have to agree in some point. Laos just seem to lack leadership and business wise for the country. Beside that, Lao present leader isn't good leader just like most Lao PDR politburo original members. The Lao people and the Vietnamese libral need to join and create a covet effort to rid of these corrupt leader's. 40 years has pass and nothing is doing done or develope in Laos. How embarrassing!!!
Sorry communist don't beleive in Bible and God . Laos is communist country.
Don't be sorry or worry, but just let you know as Soviet's big brother communist system has been colapsed for long time and all communist countries have turned themseves to join EU's system and Germany East was gone become one germany, please take refuge to the Bibe as UN's wall promise Isaiah 2:4
Hearts of Laotians are not communist yet, they need freedom of choice, as Laotians turned their minds to join Asian Union and in side, Laos has returnd back themseves to be follwing King Anouvong last year. and sing beautiful song to praise theirking will be be reigning back soon who know only Lao people party does? But from the word in the Bible. The best way to follow Dr.Khampheuy Panmalaythong's opinion.
