a development that don't respect the environment is NOT development! Because the long term effects will generate tremendous costs, much higher than the short term benefits!
The only acceptable way for a country like Laos (in fact all countries in the world) is sustainable development, this mean a development that considenr all the consequences (short and long term) of the projected changes!
This si possible, but for sure much more complex that just considering immediate profit, and hide the social and ecological consequences of each project, as many investors prefer to do... but this is not develoment, this is just development illusion!
Development vs Environment, which one Lao people care first ? Tell me pls
Economic growth versus environmental conservation can also be seen as developed countries & developing ones. Industrial such as U.S. and Germany have depended upon polluting industries for their wealth ( you know that I know that and all educators know that) Now they fear that uncontrolled economic develoment in the third world will lead to environment disaster. they point out that massive clearing of tropical rainforest for farming threatens biodiversity and may affect global climate. at the same time relying upon heavy industry adds more pollution to the Air, Soil and water sources. while richer population demands more energy. often produced from burning dirty fussil fuel such as coal. Developing countries such as China and Brazil point out that they must make industrialisation and economic development a priority because they have to support their growing populations. Developing countries must address current problems, They cannot afford to worry about distant future. They also need to point out that as the first world countries are the most to blame for current environmental damage, it is unfair to demand developing Nations limit their own growth to solve this problems... So as for our country'' Laos'' Please do not worry too much about this Global climate thing , PDR's government need to move ahead to get our people out of the poverty as soon as possible.....
