Last 2 years my wife bought me a shirt from May Co. it's Made in Laos and the cost was $24.99 , I will only wear this shirt to an important occasion and i really love to show my friends that i'm wearing product from my Motherland. After my 3rd time of wearing, my wife donated to a charity and she never found a shirt from Laos in any store. I know that there are a lot of food factories in Laos and i always tell my wife to buy anything that made in Laos on the shell but she never found one. I am honestly telling you guys that i am tire to eat noodle ( ເຝີ, ເຂົ້າປຸ້ນ ) from Vietnam.

yeah it's true that it's hard to find the products made in Laos as you look at Laos today, most of the products maid in Thailand or China or Vietnam only. Even a can of Pa Daek also made in Thailand!
Even more, Lao products could not go so far to the US as I think it wont approved by US local municipality about the quality of the products and the factory in Lao must to spend a lot of money for the lab test by the world's food standard.
I think if you are not so sensitive about Thailand, you can easy find Thai Esan food products over there.
Why? Your wife is Vietnamese or what? Why she's only cook Pho' for you every day? Oh my goddd...poor guy. You should send your wife to cooking school to learn how to cook Lao food or other Asian dishes
Todate..inorder for Laos to send their products out of the country such as America, Canada, England etc... Laos has to be a member of the WTO. Its goods has to go through vigorous testing before getting excepted by the world com- munity. It's probably why you don't see to many Laos products in the supermarket or grocery store near you.
Some how I don't buy the argument of "Being member of WTO" inorder to ship the products of out the country. Want to know how to do it........ just ask Beer Laos, they Did It!!!!!!! and successful too I may add.
There are not too many manufacturing plants at all in laos. Laos is still in an agricultural stage economy. And because of that the government of laos is having a hard time cellecting taxes from its citizens. The govenment was able to built the roads, bridges and government building here and there by borrowing the money from its neigbours, the lease of land the sale of the golds, copper and tin to the foreigners. Next time when you walk by your ancestry cemetary make sure to give them thanks. THe roads, the bridges that you see out there are not coming from today government know-how or their engineering capability but rather the selling, the leasing of the mines and the land that the laos ancestor had fought and die for, and that's not all ...they have also make the future laotian pay for it too. Those land and mines are belonging to laos of yesterday, today and tomorrow.
That's very goog....at list we got that stright and keep it that way. However; somethings belong to your grand dad, your dad and your sons and daughters are being sold right now..... without you knowing about it.
A person makes $4000 per month and spend $4001 in the same period of time he/she by definition is a poor person. On another hand... if a person is making $8 per hour and spend $6 per hour in the same token he/she is a rich person. Laos as a country spend alot...lot more money than its makes and no doubt by any definitions... Laos is a very very poor country. So!! let's forget about competing with the neigbouring country and instead laos should be thinking about curtailing its spending habit.

Even if Laos is not a member of WTO yet, it is not such a bad idea for Lao to create their own products like fish sauce in a bottle, anchovy sauce in a bottle, caned coconut milk and some many other products that the local Lao have been heavily relied on the imports from other countries for their staple consumptions, so that way Laos is no longer rely only on import products, but rather more on Lao made product and at the same time we're in away boosting our economy as well.
The government is not the answer, we can not wait for the government to do it for us and i think it's about time that the LaoNork or LaoNai should take it upon ourself. Small business ownership that's what we need in laos and I know that we can make it happen. Where ever the small business are poping up the jobs will soon followed. Let put Laotians to work, let's not wait for the government, the Chinese and veitnamese to do it for us let's us do it ourself.
