education is always a good thing especially if it is monks teaching their wont be any biased in there.

monks will only teach the truth in where other schools might be filled with false propaganda...

i am glad they are building this educating our young lao in the lao ways.

Hopefully the programs of teaching are not faith and super natural stories of reincarnation of what so ever and hope they will teach a real education . For thousand of years that Laotian people have been taught to believe
in some super natural power which Buddha had never mention but the meditation and understanding the reality of live and the law of nature.

i think most of the monk will resume secular life  after graduation .this is good start for good education in Laos, because there are many poor people can't go to school and complete their highest education due to poverty.

Will this be the first monk university in the world?

Laos: construction of the first Buddhist University starts

(KPL) A ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the first Lao Buddhist University was held on 24 January in Vientiane.
This school, approximately valued at US dollars 45 million, is located at Ban Nakai, Saythany district, Vientiane Capital.
Speaking at the ceremony, Venerable Bouakham Sariboud, Vice-President of the Lao Buddhist Fellowship Organisation, said that the school would create favourable conditions for multi-ethnic Lao children as well as those from rural areas to raise their level of education.
Once completed, the school could accommodate approximately 900 to 5000 students a year and offers courses on religion, educational and social sciences with tuition costs lower than those of other universities.
With qualified teachers and many bonzes trained in Thailand, Myanmar or India, this Buddhist University will contribute to the development of human resources, according to the Lao Party and state guidelines.

KOP in Vientiane 1/01/10

Excellence for young Lao people in remote area or in city who get ordination as Buddhist novice and monk can complete high level of studies in Buddhist or social sciences.

Is the Buddhist university accepted by the international education . Otherwise it just
wastes the time and money. Hopefully that is a real education which could be
useful to become skill workers and fit the industries in every field that Laos are
really needed. Take a look at Singapore and south Korea they are teaching heavily
in math, and physics which turn their countries around from the third world to the
first in short period of time. Real education that's what Laos need.

i don't know why you always compared Laos to those developed countries like Singapore and south Korea. the University is always good news and better than  5 star hotel right?? i think the monk can earn their bachelor;s degree with knowledge's which will give them a good chance to look for a job in Laos. and i am  sure that many poor people will complete their high education expectation. however who cares about international would accept it or not?

Do a good thing for people, never wasting time.. Peace

I like the sound it , because more kids could learn and gain more knowledgeable about their own religion, beside the learning of regular curriculum.

To khonthakek.

Tourist come to visit Luangphrabang, Vientiane or another province in Laos, they  interested only our Lao culture and history of Lao people so Buddhist University means for preservation of good Lao culture.

Of course it's a good idea since Lao is a Buddhist dominated country.  When I was a kid my uncle (whom was a monk) told me he had to travel to Chiangmai-Thailand to further his Buddhist studies.  Not every body is interested in just studying secular curriculum.  He wrote Buddhist teaching in the religious script on the palm(?) leaves for the last king of Lao in Luang Prabang.
