This is Tee kee, a kind of hockey, which is played everytime at the end of Thatluang festival day. Why Lao people play this sport on that they? Any history, or story behind this? Please share.
Tee Kee is a traditional sport ever since several centuries ago. It is the sport between the people and the royal and high ranking officials.
I see, but why they play only during the Thatluang festival ? I mean we have many traditional festival all around the year, but why only at the end of the Thatluang festival ?

this sport should be named" thatluang" coz it is played only at the thatluang during the festival only...
As I known from elderly people many years ago : the game was for consulting the oracles. First the notables of vientiane and especially seniors from thatluang village go to the temple where the Khee and May teekhee are kept to ask the permission from the holy site to get the khee for the game, after the ceremony the procession of the Khee by the sportmen to the thatluang square began after they reach the square the game started, it was alway a game that common villagers played against officials on purpose to consult the oracles whether this year the country will be prosperous or will encounter disasters, if the officials side won, the crops of the year to come would be bad and the situation of the country wouldn't be tangible, in the contrary if the villagers side won, the crops would be nice, people would live in a prosperous year...after the game the khee was kept preciously in thatluang temple with a serious procession and ceremony... Curious thing : I never saw the officials side won the game... With best regards
