Thatluang stupa was built in 1566 and it is said to contain a hair of the first Buddha from India. That's what I learned from primary school.

Do you mean " hiding" ? It should be " What has been hidden under That Luang stupa"

There are many myths told orally about Pha Thad Luang. Most sounds unrealistic though, ex. some say Nyak or giants live inside. The fact (or not) about Thad Luang is that it contained the breast bone of the lord Buddha. Along with it are precious jewels distributed by the kings and peasants from over Lan Xang.

Yes, you halve right of what you said, 1#breast bone of lord buddha from India, 2# a precious gold jewels, 3# when Pha chao Saisethathirath rule the KingDom, he build the big one to cover smaller one. i've had the books talked about all kind of wats and phajaydee including pha thatluang in vieng-junh, and and all wats in thailand too, i wish i could put all in here, but i can't , because it' translated in thai language.
