you were lucky that your house closed to the the school and you've got your bike when you were in 5th gade. when i was in primary school i walked 3Km to school everyday and i've got my first bike when i was second years in college.
this picture must have been taken from small remote village. i don't think we have a school like this in vientiane. anyway i think these kids are confused b/c the teacher didn't seem very helpful either or maybe she didn't have proper training. i'm surprise that she still there sometime the teacher write something on the board and take off to do their personal thing out side the school for hours.

I wanted to help them to donate some money to poor school in the country side. At lease I can do anything to help them.

Well, kidding aside Ake is right.
There are many students in rural Laos that go through the same condition. Dilapidated school building, lack of school supplies, lack textbooks and even blackboard, broken benches and tables. Condition is worst during rainy season. as they not only travel across muddy trails but inside the classroom is raining as well.
Improving school facilities should be integrated in the education reform. Extending the number of years in school is ok because it would allow to cover more subjects and teachers would not rush in teaching a particular topic to complete the curriculum on time.So students will be able to absorb the knowledge being imparted to them. However, extending the school years without improving the facilities is like prolonging the students agony and despair. How can you expect to maximize the students potential if the learning environment is not conducive. Plus, have you noticed the number of students is low. I expect maybe >30 in a class considering that there are few schools in the rural areas andthe ratio of total children population per available schoolis high. This impllies possible high proportion of out of school youths.
These children are the future of Laos. What could the government do?.... what you ordinary people could do?.... what can Laotians abroad do? what can YOU DO to help provide better education and promote imroved learning experience to these children?
These questions might seem difficult to answer but if you are really serious about helping there is always a way!!!

it was an old standard bicycle that no one used it ,Yes I was lucky that the school was quite near. my mom told me that her brothers used to walk from home to school every day around 20 km. i was so luckier than them too.
