I don't think it is necessary. Everyone should know English because that is the language people speak when different people from different countries don't understand each other.

Don't even talk about foreign language, look at the use of Lao language these days, very terrible.
Some even don't know how to say or call something in Lao language.
Some use mix of Thai and Lao and English
Some make a lot of mistake in writing lao language
but who cares ?

Even in australian universities there are courses about asian languages, such as chinese, indonesian, japanese, vietnamese....etc. There is nothing wrong to learn any languages, by doing so it will give your more knowledge. So learning is a good thing, the more we learn the more we become wiser.

EVERY SCHOOL WHETHER IT BE PRIVATE OR PUBLIC SHOULD OFFER FOREIGN LANGUAGE AS A REQUIREMENT TO GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE.

HAVING ENGLISH IS A HUGE ADVANTAGE IF ANYONE WANT TO WORK OVERSEA OR WITH FOREIGNERS. BUT CHINESE AND VIETNAMESE IS ALSO GOOD IF YOU ARE PLANING TO WORK WITH THEM IN YOUR FUTURE CAREER.

HERE IN AMERICA SOME SCHOOL OFFER FOREIGN LANGUAGE SUCH AS MADARIN, SPANISH, FRENCH AND JAPANESE FOR STUDENTS AT 7TH AND 8TH GRADE. THERE ARE  MORE OPTION WHEN STUDENT GET TO HIGH SCHOOL BUT (IT VARIES FROM SCHOOL TO SCHOOL).

well that may because lots of chinese and vietnamese now living in laos. it depends if education sector want to meet the demand....before there were very few chinese or viet schools tought those lang.
but on the other hand, i agree that gov. should pay more attention on promoting lao language because the young ppl rarely speak and write lao correctly

The Lao government should also promote and encourage the new generation to preserve the languages of the minorites, ex. Khmu, Hmong, and etc.

You should care enough to speak your own language very well and it's a shame to see some of Laotians can't speak Lao language properly many time I heard Laotians who lives in America call themselves " Lay-otian". When they introduced themselves to other an  American . That's really bugged the blip out of me . Lao people are not " Lay-otian ok!" . We are Laotian as  in khon Laotian. no
