Laos being landlock have no access to sea. The mighty Mekong river, and all other rivers thus serves as the blood vessel that carries the life of Lao. as time goes by the Lao Population is getting bigger, and as the number of people increase so as the waste products that goes to the rivers and water ways. Also the foreigners who are looking for settlement in Laos. It is also anticipated that as as the country encourage foreign investors, some might put up factories which usually emit their wastes either to the atmospere or into the waterways. All these pose threat to the Mekong river.
Is there any effort to protect the Mekong from these threats?
Don't you know that there is Mekong River Commission that is responsible for the protection of the Mekong.
Mekong river is not Lao river, but internatinal rivers of China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia. To protect the river, it needs all collaboration of these countries + international organization.
