The Siamese-French treaties between 1893 and 1907 was the major events in Laos (Lan Xang) history. Lan Xang lost almost all the lands on the west side of the Mekong river and Laotians becames devided further and the depopulation was started as Siam assimlate our people on the west bank. The Khmer lost almost as much as Lan Xang. Almost half of South Vietnam was part of Khmer Kingdom but French had given it to Vietnam. They had lost much of their land on the west, southwest, and islands as well.

King Fa Ngum established Lan Xang kingdom in 1353.
