This photo was taken in Vientiane, but I don't know the exact location. Two of the Buddhist monks are wearing 'hats' that look like the mitres (something like a hat) that Christian bishops/priests wear.
Why are they doing that? What event or ceremony is this?
I don't understand about the hat either but I think these are the new monks that was be ordained temporary during the rainny season which is right now in Laos. I think this was during Boun Kow Pansa or Vassa in Pali.

This ceremony called Hod-Song for the best monk at the temmple. What you see in that picture, the monks just Got off the Hod-Song hut and they will walk through the crowd, at the same time peolpe will lay down their Pha-Bieng,money or some will lay down their body to let the monks step on. It believed that, they will achieve their good wishing in the future. apologize for my English
I ask all my cousin who mostly hit 60 year old now they said they never see monk wearing hat only catholic religion and tibet not laos thai combodia monks they said ,,this is something else
