Topioca Factory is responsible for lake environmental recovery
(KPL) Wastewater from the wastewater reservoir cum treatment plant of Laos-Indochina Topioca Factory Company was accidentally been flowed into Nong Hane lake last week and caused the fish in the lake to die.
Heavy rainfalls caused this reservoir to overflow its and the toxic water flowed into the Nong Hane lake, Natham village, Pakngum district, Vientiane.
?At the present, the company used pumps to suck wastewater of lake back to the waste water reservoir cum treatment plant of Laos-Indochina Topioca Factory Company last Sunday and local people collected dead fish for bury, leading to the condition of Nong Hane lake is getting better,? said Mr Phimmason Somsanouk, Village Chief of Natham in Pakngum district, Vientiane capital.
Seeing this condition, authorities of district, village, concerned factory and relevant organizations banned local people to collect dead fish for food.
Mr Phimmason called for local people to closely monitor their livestock to come in the area because the wastewater would be dangerous for both local people and animals. ?The company would purchase dead fish at price of 10,000 kip per kilogram,? said Director of Laos-Indochina Topioca Factory Company, Mr Sengmaly Sengvatthana. ?The company is pleased to provide the financial assistance to satisfy local people?.
At the present, the concerned factory in cooperation with the Water Resource and Environment Administration and local authorities are conducting a campaign to recover people?s mind.
?The company confirmed to release the fish into the lake when the condition water of the lake comes back as normal,? he said.
It's tApioca (man dton) not topioca. Processing tapioca produces a lot of toxic cyanide compounds, people in Indonesia & other countries have died from it before.
