Lao students to benefit from Japanese scholarships

The Japanese government has agreed to provide more grant aid to Laos in the field of human resource development, with postgraduate scholarships valued at 26.6 billion kip (297 million yen) on offer to high achievers.

The agreement for the financial assistance was signed yesterday in Vientiane by Japanese Ambassador to Laos Masaaki Miya****a on behalf of the Japanese government.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Phongsavath Boupha signed the agreement on behalf of the Lao government.

The grant aid will fund young Lao government officials' studies in Japanese higher education institutions.

The scholarship project began in 1999. Since then nearly 200 Lao students have been sent to Japan , enrolling in postgraduate programmes at Japanese universities.

Later this year, some 20 students are due to depart for Japan to study development economics, education, law, agriculture and engineering.

At the signing ceremony Mr Miya****a said higher education was of the utmost importance in the achievement of international equality.

“A country needs highly skilled human resources in order to design and implement its national development plan.”

He said the Japanese government believed helping Laos to enhance and develop the capacity of its human resources in this economically difficult period was one of the most worthwhile efforts it could make.

Mr Phongsavath spoke on behalf of the Lao government, expressing thanks to the Japanese government for its kind support in the field of human resource development, through scholarships and other projects.

I think is good that many students from laos go to Japan.  Therefore,Japanese people are very devoted when they do somethings they always put the quality over the quantity. Most people are humble, nice, and royal. Japan's economic and technology are well known over the globe.

japanese language are very difficult to learn. it takes more than a year to have a basic skill in daily life conversation, and forget about the language that use in class and lecture, because it is very complicated. Better go to countries that use english as a main language.
