Three classroom blocks at Vientiane 's long-established Anou School are being demolished to make way for the construction of a new five-storey building, which should be ready for use in the upcoming semester.
The Deputy Director of the Vientiane Education Department, Mr Khamphouang Choummaly, said the school now provides education at the kindergarten, primary and lower secondary levels, and once the new building is complete, with 30 new classrooms, it will also include upper secondary classes.
“Our students will then be able to continue at the same school with their friends once they've finished their lower secondary schooling here,” he said.
“This is part of our plans to reduce student numbers in classrooms at Vientiane Secondary School .”
T he construction project is being supported by the Japanese government, with funds of US$1million.
One building will be preserved, and 100 of the school's 400 students are using this while construction proceeds.
The 100 students are those in kindergarten and primary school, while the other 300 are studying at a school in Khualuang Neua village, arranged by the Vientiane Education Department.
Mr Khamphouang said overcrowding in secondary schools had become a chronic problem in Vientiane , and few additional schools were being built to ease the situation.
At present it is common for 60 or more children to study in the same classroom, making it difficult for them to concentrate on what the teacher is saying. The new Anou School will go some way towards relieving the problem.
Vientiane authorities plan to build 200 classrooms in the coming years, which will cut the number of students down to 40 to 45 per class.
“It's always a challenge when large numbers of students move from the provinces to Vientiane ; we keep building more classrooms, but the numbers keep increasing,” he said.
“We expect the number of primary schools to decrease in the next three years as more people consider family planning and have fewer children.”
Anou School is one of the oldest in Vientiane , built in the 1940s. It is named after the last Lao King of the Vientiane dynasty of the Lane Xang Kingdom , who led his people to rescue their country from the hands of Siam in the 19 th century.
Why can we (Lao) ever do or build anything without................"T he construction project is being supported by the Japanese government, with funds of US$1million. ".
how can the gov. afforrd to develop the country? they don't tax the hell out of your income here like other countries. the don't ask evey street vendor or store shop to register for a business liscense. so, the gov. has no income for project development....hence we are consisder a 3rd world country or Least Devloped Country and require foriegn aid.
as for the school, you know that education fund is never enough, espcially to fund a school like that on state budget.
thanks the japs. they eagerly and generously donate and donate. although i wouldn't be suprised is the project manager suddenly starts driving around in a new toyota land crusier....and you know what i'm getting at.

Sadly, our country is very poor...can't have major project without help from other countries.

I have never heard Lao NORK donate any money for the project in Laos. I heard only the complaints from them again and again. But it is useless because it helps nothing for the development of Laos

Yes, Lao Nork people are Americans. They love USA, they just try to look down Lao people. No surprise about that.
Only our friends in need would give a hand to support us when we are poor.
It does not matter where the funds coming from as long as they built it for Lao people, Laos nation and most important thing our children will have a nice and modern classrooms. Thanks to Japanese government.
Look at the drawing, I would like to know the name of the architect. Very nice
But, it should cost more than US$1Million. Or this one million dollars is just additional fund.

yes. we (lao nork) often send some small amount of money to laos, so people over there can rebuild or fix either schools or temples. Please understand that we are not that rich having million $ to fund the big project.

The same to Lao government. We are not that rich having trillion $ to fund the big projects. So, don't request much, and contribute more.
Japan has obligation to compensate Laos more than 240 mill. USD after lost World War II. Our government hasn't collected even a dime, yet. This is our own moneys. We didn't bother anybody. But thank you very much Japanese.

Telling Japaneses that they must pay war reparation to Laos will not do any good to the Laos-Japanese bilateral relation. WWII ended a long time ago and it is better that Japan is cooperating and assisting Laos in its development.
Japan had done a lot better in term of helping Laos in many ways. Look at the USA, very little. They should've increased the fund substantially supporting the UXO clearance project.
every thing happen is becoz of the Government's Foreign Policy, good vission , peace, independence, freedom, Unity and prosperity all of that we formed the stategy for our development. American and french are usless but becomming friend of Lao are welcomed, in the past both of them did very little to held to develop our country, they destroyed our country's infustuture, land , culture and created the Chao situation in the country. Lao people need friend from around the world for development, Lao is peaceloving nation and never become the invader or agressor. Peace, safety and stability are the main and priority of the Lao Nation.

Hope that the school will be building by good material and high quality cement and steel , Lao government can learn from china's experience, some chinese high ranking officer were corrupted to build the school in sichuan and many school has built by low quality steel and cement which collapsed during the powerful earthquake in sichuan- china, Many Many students died...
Every good things happened in Laos because U.S.A. Please, you can hate anybody except White U.S.A. o.k. Without their care(USA),those countries such as Jap.,Chin.,Viet.,Thai.,Camb.,Aust. S. K., they won't be there to support us. My friends ask yourself who built Jap. and Chin. speaking of educations wise? Before your country can become better, we need a lot of educated people or else our brothers and sisters will continue to work hard and get payless like in Thailiand.
Please be polite and more ethical. Don't say thank the japs. Japanese government and people are great donator to Laos for the past many decades. We must be grateful for their contribution and aid.
