My take on the recent tragedy and my heartfelt sympathy goes out to all those Koreans.
It’s not just a simple quest for freedom though Korea is a country of lawlessness, massive corruption, one party rule, a government cover up official wrong doings and the suppression of the press, but also a result of poverty that compelled these innocent people risking their lives by travelling thousands of miles. Desperation makes people take drastic actions when there is no other alternative. Korea is probably one of the only remaining communist states that still practice the dictatorship of proletariat and the belief in communism as a path towards the ideal world of Utopia. Countries like China, Laos, Cuba and Vietnam are more socialistic implementing Western style economic democratic system.

It is unfortunate reality for Korean people to have an obstinate tyrannical leader who only cares about his ultimate power than the welfare of his people despite constant pressure from his communist neighbor China to introduce economic reform in which China herself initiated since 1978 followed by Vietnam, and Laos in the mid-80s.  He rules with iron fist and endlessly indoctrinating his people with state propaganda.   I remember watching a video clip during his interview with a rare visit by a former defense secretary of state “Madeleine Albright.” He was so reluctant to be drawn out on the subject of reforms. A week prior to the arrival of any foreign leaders, he would make sure that his capital city was meticulously neat and clean and the decoration was unbelievably dynamic making you believe that Korea is actually a state of utopia. The decoration was from the airport all the way to the presidential palace and it was probably the most exquisite embellishment you can never expect. Then time for national anthem followed by a fantastic live performance, young girls and young boys were all singing in a praise of their Dear Supreme Leader. Ironically, Korea is a living hell according to eyewitnesses, illustrated graphic-documents as well as defectors’ own account itself.

It’s pathetic that he keeps marinating his people with a culture of narcissism and egotism profusely praising his leadership. Decades of self-isolation and the collapse of Union Soviet Socialist had caused millions of lives inside North Korea due to famine and starvation, but the Dear Supreme Leader remains undaunted. What crucial to him most is the loyalty from his generals; therefore, travelling abroad would not be in his interest and just to visit China, he would take with him those generals because of his compulsive phobia. It really makes me want to puke every time I hear their eulogies when their comrades died. It’s such a long list of glorious praise about their contribution to the state and the invocation for the people to undertake their fallen comrades as the greatest exemplification so that they can offer the same service and allegiance to the party state which mean state always first, family and life are second.

Everywhere else in North Korea except its capital city, you would see men and women despairingly carrying their emaciated children with nothing but dirty rags looking for food like a scavenger. The international food program can only do so much since there are millions to feed. His policy of self-reliance with pride never yields any fruitful result and with the profound reduction in economic aid from Japan and South Korea, Kim Jong II the Midget, is on the brink of collapse. Aside from this ongoing crisis, he also has a temper tantrum; you would be a fool to make him mad because he would throw you as a morsel to his bodyguard and even God can’t help you by then.  Your next destination is guaranteed one of the labor camps assuming that you are lucky enough to survive where you will be toiling all day without adequate food or water. You will be confined with those political prisoners and share your misery until you die because there is no such thing call “parole” in that secret society.

It’s like a fate that befell this country.  They had been brutally colonized by Japan for 45 years then regained independence at the end of the World War II, but it was short live. The red army from Soviet Union marched into the North of Korea and U.S also rushed in to secure the South so the whole peninsula would not fall to communism and the country was divided ever since.  Washington foreign policy at the time was to contain and stop the spread of communism whenever and wherever possible. While South Korea has undeniably enjoyed prosperity, Kim IL Sun, the father who worshiped the ideology of Marxism/Leninism had plunged his country and his people deeper into economic despair. It is a poignant impasse that even Kim Jong II can’t extricate from it and his only choice is to implore the world for mercy.  By using his nuclear program as a bargaining chip, did not obtain anything much in his favor either instead, he was unwillingly shut it down for a small concession from an inconsiderate cowboy Bush. Kim Jong the Midget has a lot to thank God if not Afghanistan and Saddam Hussein because of them, his neck is still attached. I have no doubt that president Bush would make his life a living hell if he didn’t have to take on Iraq.
I am tired of typing so I ought to end it here. I can go on and on in stigmatizing the Dear Supreme Leader as an “Invective Tyrant Dictator” who still has some years to live in the 21st century.Once again my heartfelt sympathy goes out to those defectors in Laos. downmn8.gifdownmn8.gif
