Sept 25 (Reuters) - Sports news in brief from around the world.
Games - Communist Laos, which has never hosted an international sports event, has admitted it does not have qualified officials in three-quarters of the sports contested at next year's South East Asian Games in Vientiane.
Hundreds of people will be trained to become referees and judges because Laos has qualified officials in only 6 of the 24 sports, the Vientiane Times reported. Laos has cut the number of sports by almost half because of a lack of cash and facilities.
Yes, like it or not, that's a fact. There is no other option for Lao people, but have to learn. No doubt, Lao people would gain from this Games a lot of lessons though, let alone medals. That would be good enough. Next time, we can deal with it easier.
Knowing that our people are just about going to be trained to become refrerees and judges, I do expect, God forbid, some more problems would happen in the Games. Some nations in ASEAN countries are really arrogant, especially when they are about to be the losers. On top of that, if you are the new refrerees you would certainly have less confidence. Plus, even worse if your Englisgh is different with the English which is used by them. Things can get worse for host country.

Hhhhmmmmm Thanks for the info. I wonder in what sports do they need referees and judges. I might be able to lend a helping hand, if Laos needed it. I am certified referee for Division I Men/Women Volleyball. I've worked on few Final Four matches and also worked many matches of Misty May and Kerry Walsh during their college years. For those who didn't know who May/Walsh, they are the gold medals for beach volleyball at Beijing Olympic.
